Yes, If they don't automatically, you can train them to do so.

German Shepherds are very loyal and attached to their owners. They are loving yet independent so they can be happy just being in the same room with you. Dogs, like people, have different personalities so there is no guarantee that your dog will be a "cuddler" Over the years I have had many different breeds of dogs but a large percentage of them has been German Shepherd or mixes thereof. Some have enjoyed being hugged and snuggled with, others could take it or leave it. My White Shepherd sleeps on the bed with me and likes to lie next to me on the floor when I watch T.V. Part of our morning ritual is a 5 minute session of nuzzling and kisses while I scratch her all over and check for anything that might have gotten stuck in her fur while she was outside. If you don't want them on the furniture then they seem to understand that or if you want a couch mate they're usually there for ya. My "polar bear" is not allowed on the furniture in the house so we do our hanging out on the floor.

I live in the country on a ranch. We had a lot of copperheads. Until I went an rescued some cats from the animal shelter since then we don't have any snake problems. I have 3 dogs and I haven't seen them bother the snakes at all.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU8To
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yes, but the little legged dachsunds have been known to be more of a snake killer then most breeds. They were bred for badgers but hate snakes too.
The one my uncle had finally died from killing to many rattlers here. Bigger dogs can handle a poisonous snake bite unless it is directly on the nose.

Yes a dog can kill a snake but the snake can kill the dog. Do you like the dog? Are you willing to lose the dog?

Almost any type of dog will kill snakes if they are in the mood to do so. I would be leery of sending a dog in to kill something like a rattlesnake however, because they are so fast, and so dangerous. Let both dogs in the garden.
Our golden retriever used to kill them when we lived in the country. She would grab and shake them to break their backs.

I had an Airedale that never bothered snakes until she was bitten by a rattler. The vet had to amputate the front leg and after that she began killing rattlers and bull snakes (non-poisonous but they act like a rattler) wholesale. She would never bother garter snakes or any other non-poisonous snakes.Sweet revenge. RScott

my mom raises german sheppards and they do and will kill snakes most of your bigger breeds do . I used to have an Irish wolfhound and she would pick them up and then she would stomp on them and kill them . cats will also kill snakes . Just be carefull that they dont mess with a rattle snake. good luck .
