when they "realised" that Madeleine had "disappeared". Does that sound like the sort of thing a distraught parent would do?????

All of you who cannot for sentimental reasons believe that the McCanns DID phone sky first are in for a BIG surprise. I understand your sentiments because it is a very cold, calculating thing to do, but they did it. You will have to believe it when the truth starts to come out eventually and I feel for you then because it will be a big blow to your belief in human nature. You are good people who want to believe the best of people but you will be surprised.

Its a shame that the people who are backing the McCanns to the hilt - are being taken in by them..- the McCanns did indeed call Kate's freind in the Media Ester McVey - First...! it was the Manager of the Mark Warner resort who called the Police .

Where did this information originate, and can you confirm its authenticity ?
In cases of extreme stress people can and do worry about minor details, however as a whole they do tend to make sure the essential tasks are performed.
If they had indeed been assured the Police had been called on their behalf such a time lapse is easily understandable.
I believe that they were in my opinion negligent in the safe care of the children on the night. However everything they have done since would point to reasonable efforts to keep the search live and active. If it disappears from the media, then the search dies to. What would you have them do ?

I'm Portuguese, and live in Scotland maybe the first thing I learnt from Scotland it was the national emergency number (you never know about tomorrow) Portugal as a not stopped in time country as some stopped in time people think we are, Portugal uses the EUROPEAN EMERGENCY NUMBER 112, such an intelligent people doctors (related with the emergencies profession) high status and so cultured they couldn't make the effort to press twice one button and once another on the phone to find their daughter...
If you've been following this case from the start you would know that the police checked the phone calls made by them, that's how they knew that they didn't drink 3 bottles of wine (McCanns version) but 14 when they've checked the bill. Easy to check such things, and to help that when the police arrived after they received the phone call it was already on SKY News (fact).
Once again not happy with the first mistake, they have failed as parents AGAIN!

Indeed. It seems incredible that the McCanns could hatch such a dastardly plan (and carry it out), but there are just too many irregularities to completely rule them out.

I asked a similar question about the priest and another poster explained that her devout catholic relative would also call the priest before the police so maybe that isn't as wacked as it sounds.
**Caeseas wife - Have you been going through the police confidential files again? You seem to have a lot of inside info.

In the words of the McCanns - That's ludicrous! As a parent, I would be calling the police and my family.

Actually yes, In that state of mind many people panic and make wrong decisions right off the bat. Plus they may have thought that it was better to get as many people involved as possible.
You won't know till an emergency hits you at some time in your life.

IF this is true, it is no surprise, nothing about this case surprises anybody anymore, except that people can't resist continually trying to surprise us (usually without proof)!

LIES again.
Its been reported and denied on sky that they phoned that night.
Philomena McCann did,she wanted it put on the sky news immediately, and that was a very clever thing to do.
