Please help i have a small cat which i didnt let out of the yard but has started jumping over the wall. I know i cant keep him in 24/7 but when he does go out he keeps going around to the front door(which is on a busy main road) . I never let him out the front, he uses the cap flap at the back. I have unblocked the bottom of the gate so he can get back in but it's as if hes loosing his bearings. I've already lost a cat on the road sadly and dont want it to happen again. I also have a big cat that goes out so dont feel its fair to not let them out. Please help.

Trusting that the cat will stay off the road is useless. Unless you're ready to take the dead body off the road at some future date start thinking about his being an indoor cat 24/7 or building a cat kennel in back that can contain him safely. There's not really anything else to say.

If you live on a busy street, you may loose another cat. Due to your location, your cats should not be allowed outside, but especially one that does not seem "outside-wise". Not all cats are good at being outside, and even the smartest cat can end up in the road, at the wrong time. Block the cat flap, and watch the doors. If your cat is not neutered, then have that done so that it will not mind being inside.

PLEASE get your cat microchipped ASAP. If the cat gets lost and found by someone, it can be scanned and with luck (and if you keep the information current), the cat will be returned to you.

Contact your vet about microchipping. It's painless and effective. A small chip is injected into the skin between the shoulder blades. It stays there for life. My cat has one.

Also, if your cat will wear one, put a collar on it with an ID tag. However, many cats can get out of collars so the microchip is a must. A cat can't lose a chip and it may save it's life.

indisputably he could be an indoor cat. All cats could be indoor cats, i'm a company believer of this as there are too many disadvantages outdoors mutually with automobiles, mean human beings, wild animals, different cats and canines and so on...Cats can stay 20+ years indoors and are lots in good shape than outdoor cats and your vet costs would be low-fee too. outdoor cats could be dewormed a minimum of each year and require greater accepted vaccines for leukemia and tom cat aids because of the fact they have touch with animals outdoors. Plus indoor cats dont have fleas and ticks and so on...Your cat gets used to being indoors in basic terms purely furnish him a superb sunny window seat the place he can sit down interior the window and watch the international struggle by way of and supply him interactive toys mutually with battery operated mice and issues that circulate to maintain him mentally inspired and that they help sell exercising. The laser dot is an incredible toy to your cat. They like to chase the dot purely be certain you never shine it interior the cats eyes, it could do extreme injury. I observed 2 until eventually now stray outdoor cats and that they are indoor in basic terms now and altered purely positive. they haven't any interest in going outdoors anymore and are very pleased and content textile and risk-free indoors. Your cat will stay a lots longer in good shape existence interior, and he might fuss somewhat in the commencing up yet once you stand your floor, he will settle for it and be completely positive staying indoors. additionally, be certain you get him neutered if he's no longer already. If he's no longer neutered he will choose to get out after women yet while he's neutured he will certainly alter. shop him interior!

Why can't you keep him in 24/7? I think all cats should be indoors at all times, especially in cases where they can get out on a busy road and get into other dangers.

You could try walking your cat with a cat harness. Not as daft as it sounds as the cat will get exercise and will soon learn to walk on a lead. One of the leads that reel out and let the cat have a certain amount of freedom. I did it with my own cat when it was just a small kitten to let it get to know the area safely.

Assuming that your cat is at it's teen years and is curious etc, it isn't too smart to let it out, instead let it observe more, at that age, it's bound to get lost, i'm sure your bigger cat has learned more and is smarter and knows how scary the outside is..etc so if you really care about your smaller cat, you shouldn't let it out that much, unless you know he's fully ready.

This is a perennial problem. Is there any way you could enclose your garden and cat-proof it? I did this and apart from a few escapes from my Houdini-cat, it has been a success. Check the internet for cat-proofing. (I used Secur-a-Cat)
