It's a bit of a generalization to say that the bible is not true, as a large part of it deals with ancient jewish, mesopotamian and egyptian history, not to mention the fact that the New Testament deals with people who are known to have existed during the time of the Romans, for which a lot of documentary evidence is available from other sources. So a lot of the historical facts in the bible are undoubtedly true.
Now whether or not you believe in the Creation, the Garden of Eden, the flood, Jesus being the son of god, and all the rest of the religious content is up to you. I think most people believe (whether they like it or not) in what the bible is trying to teach us - Jesus' parables make a hell of a lot of sense whatever your background, and whatever you think you think. But rationally you have to discount a lot of the literal stories because they just don't make sense given what science has taught us about the world over the last couple of hundred years...

Yes the bible is true and a great story but there is much more to it than meets the eye. And infact, the same holds true of other religious books which could be described as a sackful of flour with a pinch of salt.
God is not a christian and He does not belong to any of the great religions. He is a God of Peace who transcends all religious books and faiths so no one religion can lay claim to Him.

The bible, if anything, is an excellent 76% true of historical happenings. However, certain things had happened which they did not know the answer to so - they made up an answer and gave the credit to a magical god.
Trouble is; most people, after several hundreds of years, actually thought the `made up` bits were true and started worshipping that thing which didn`t exist.
It is very difficult to erase something from the mind which was placed there in early childhood.
And so christianity and all the other relgions were born.
The most famous, because he had charisma and knew how to hold a crowd, was a person named Jesus who actually thought he was the son of a god.
They nailed him to a cross and told him not to be so silly.
He regrets it to this day.

like any stories told verbally before being written down hundreds of years later, it has had a lot of spin added to it, along with propaganda and personal gain and interest.
I'm sure that some of the roots of the stories are true, but not in the way they have been told. They can never be looked at as a full account of the truth, just as no history can be.
As long as you interpret it how you want to and you believe in it how you want to and you don't force your views down other peoples necks then everything fine.
It's the guys that force their ideas on you that I don't like, not the religion.

One would have to give up being able to ask questions, twist things from the bible to make sense, pretend there are no imperfections in the bible. With that much said it make a good source of entertainment to read.

I don't believe what the bible says.

Your opinion is wrong then isn't it. a) its not 'a' story, its a collection of many stories b) its true whether you believe it or not. Just because you have an opinion doesn't make you right

I used to think so too, but then I met Jesus and started to re-think. I believe it all now, and have read many books that make me think my faith is well placed.
Try these:
