I picked one up in a gun shop several years back. The fit and finish was at least fair, but the grip safety didn't work. It was factory fresh. I set is back down, dug deeper in my pocket and bought a Springfield.
Since then I've seen a lot of the Rock Island guns and they seem pretty nice. Though I haven't shot one yet.

i did no longer think of they made them anymore, yet they are an ok 1911. I nevertheless have 0 experience with them, so i could propose Rock Island Armory or the Springfield GI in case you prefer an low priced 1911. they are not as precise or tight as something you pay slightly greater for, yet they are going to do the interest. yet another 1911 which i think of is a much greater useful product in case you will discover one is the Norinco 1911A1. that's totally almost a precise reproduction of a Colt 1911A1. many human beings i know used to purchase those for type of $3 hundred and then build them into aim weapons through fact it replaced into a precise reproduction of the Colt. i do no longer know how elementary they are to get now, yet once you get one, do no longer bypass it up. in case you prefer something for a hid carry objective, i could propose the RIA in a shorter barrel length. i know the three.5" barreled ones are greater handy to discover than the 4.5". I had a 5". The Springfield GI is likewise available in what they call the "Champion" form. and that's a 4" barrel. i've got heard that the Charles Daly works. There are dozens of comments on them on YouTube too. like various 1911 even with the undeniable fact that, understand that it could take a tiny little bit of artwork to get it to run completely. some artwork appropriate out of the container, some do no longer. i discover it much less of a concern on the weapons which at the instant are not as tightly outfitted, yet you at the instant are not likely to get as precise of a gun as in case you purchased something like say a Nighthawk or a Les Baer. To be easy, i could fairly propose saving your money and getting something like a Colt, Smith & Wesson or Springfield for a 1911.

Stay with the Springfield or Kimber. If those are too hard on the wallet than get the Taurus.
