God can forgive outright because of the Crucifixion, never apart from it. The death of Jesus was the substitutionary payment for all sinners (i.e., everyone on earth). But the gift of forgiveness is applicable to a person when he truly accepts it from God. If one does not acknowledge that God has done this for him, the gift is forfeited. It's kind of like having a million dollars in your bank account, but living as a bum and never touching a cent of it before you die.
As for all those born & dead before Jesus, they believed in God who forgave, and who promised to send the Lamb to fulfill His promises. You could say the gift of forgiveness was on credit. God gave the goods (i.e., forgiveness) ahead of time because He trusted that the payment would later be satisfied through Jesus.

That's why we have OT and NT. I don't know if you understand what it means of Testaments. I guess if your parents owns a property or assets, you're expecting to inherit some of it. That's where a testament come but this testament only be effective if the signee or the testator had passed away already.
Examining God's Holy Word:
Before (ancient times) they have to sacrifice unblemish animals or birds to atoned for their sins, Book of Leviticus. And this not so sensible for us to do for we multiply accordingly. Therefore, God did plan to much better covenant, Hebrews 8.
So, if you do not believe in blood atoning for sins then you can't be saved, John 3:16; John 14:6; Romans 4:25; 2Corinthians 5:21; Romans 3:25;
Mat 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
See, Lord Jesus already prepared the Testament before hand (His last suffer with His disciples), then this NT and NC will not take effect until Lord Jesus will be crucified, and die.
Besides, no one can pleased God, among us except the man called Jesus. Why? Because He is holy, pure, sincere, unblemish, undefiled, no sin found in Him. He is just and righteous, 2Co 5:21; Romans 3:26; Romans 5:18; 1Co 1:30.
How can Lord Jesus do it being in the flesh not commit sin? Because He is God Himself in the flesh, John 1:1-2.
Therefore, those who do not believe Lord Jesus is the only way to the Father in heaven, John 14:6, then they do not have access to God or their prayers can't be heard.
Joh 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. AMEN.

not really. God made a covenant with israel. in this covenant, a sacrifice was needed for the atonement of sins (and yes, the jews made sacrifices for thousands of years before Jesus). since God has too much integrity to go against His own set rules, Jesus (God, in the flesh) was the final sacrifice, and since God is eternal, so is our forgiveness. all we have to do is accept that forgiveness, confess our sins, and do the best we can to live without sinning.

Jesus was SENT to earth for a specific purpose. To ' buy back' for us, with his perfect life, the legal right to again live without death, just like Adam and Eve.
Gopd planned that they live forever on earth without having to die. And God warned them that iof they did not obey, the punishment would be death.
(Genesis 2:16-17) And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”
So prior to that day, they had no prospect of dying.
And we have inherited that fault. Our bodies cells replace themserlves up to abouyt the age of thirty, but from then on its a downhill slide to death. And doctors cannot explain why.
Jesus has paid the price, and his Father will fulfill the promise of Rev. 21;4 AFTER Armageddon.
(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Death is not natural to us.
(1 Corinthians 15:26) As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing.

The bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.
Our sins aren't forgiven without a dear cost, the blood of the Lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world.

you pray for forgiveness in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ. God forgives then. Jesus came to save all of us sinners by teaching us how to pray and about God. if it weren't for Him, trying to make it to Heaven would be useless.

Please, don't anyone go dying on my account, even if I'm begging 2,000 years too late. There's better things to do with your life than be the subject of a horrid Mel Gibson film.
Oh wait, it's too late on that one, too.
