... and neither hold any postition(job) which puts her in charge of a male counterpart? if you believe this is unjust, mysogynistic, and should not be heeded, you aren't a christian.

psss... the ''word of god'' is eternal by definition. 2000 years or 2 million years makes no difference. he even says so himself.

well, if you assert that part of it is made up by fallible men, why would you give any heed to the rest? that's just plain idiocy and self ignorance.

This is one of those really dumb old rules that got tossed out with whale bone corsets. Sorry. You lose. She wins.

I completely agree with you. If a woman/wife had a question relating to the church she was to ask it to her husband in private. However, Acts 18:24-26 does speak of Priscilla who with her husband, Aquila was an influential and respected Christian teacher.
Historically women have been major reasons that churches have stayed alive. Teaching Sunday School, VBS, bazaars, church dinners, taking care of children - organizing social activities that bring members together are important roles to fill.
In my past 15 years experience in one church (I'm a ministers daughter) I knew two particular women who claimed they received the 'call', attended seminiary and became ministers with their own churches. It soon became apparent to me that there was a feminist agenda when I heard one say she wanted to be a pioneer of feminism in the church. She became very masculine, almost bullying and lacked the leadership skills.
One of these women applied to be the minister of a Presbyterian church who had two previous female ministers. They had created so much division, pitted people against each other, both attempted to make it over into what suited them. They were unskilled at leadership, demanding and self-seeking. These women nearly destroyed the church, emotionally and spiritually. One of the women I knew applied to be the next minister and they refused to hire her. While it was a bone of contention to her, I could understand why and told her the church had every right to distrust women as ministers based on their experience.
Today, neither of those women are ministers. They got what they wanted, became disillusioned, leaving the church. I heard one preach the silliest and most ridiculous
sermon I heard in all my life.....that God, the Holy Ghost and Jesus were not man or woman, that they were sexless.....go figure...where was the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. How was Jesus conceived with Mary. I guess the seminary forgot to focus on those parts of the Bible. It seems too many women are barging into new territory with a feminist agenda. And leaving their messes for others to clean up. It gives true feminism a bad name, not to mention the worthless drivel fed to congregations today. Thank you for letting me rant on the matter.

Hmmm, have a bit of a problem with that. First, I am a baptized child of God and have faith in Him and Christ Jesus as my savior.... therefore I am a Christian.
As for women....
No, women may not preach nor may the read from the gospels to the congregation. They may not be elders. They may not assist with the distribution of Holy Communion. I don't have a problem with any of those things.
But, then you go too far. What about the year I was VBS director and our pastor was one of the youth teachers? I was basically in charge of him. I am currently the treasurer of our congregation, and, as such, have control of the funds. I was the chair of our Board of Education, with 2 men sitting on the board.
Does holding these positions exempt me from my heavenly reward?? Are they so horrid in the eyes of God that He would condemn me to Hell? I think not, otherwise He wouldn't have given me the gifts to be able to do those jobs.

Star for your question.........
I'm a Mormon. There are positions in our church which women hold. Women speak in our church.
I believe what I believe and it has nothing to do with men or women.
These religions that teach that women should not speak in church or otherwise stifle women do so because of the sin committed by Eve in the Garden of Eden.
We all pay for our own iniquity, and we all suffer because we are all shortsighted. We are human and None of us are perfect.
I almost got riled up on this question, thanks...........
Good luck

Hardly...... I am waiting for the majority of male-dominated religion to get with the idea that religious celebration is best served with strong male and female celebrants of all ranks.
Let's all raise our voices in Faith....and pray for enlightenment to rain down on any who would consider either gender above the other!!!
Equality in the eyes of the Powers is something we already share, now we need to convince our neighbors!
Good Luck and Goddess Bless.

Galatians 3:26-29 'You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.'
NIV in "
Don't forget, wisdom itself is referred to as a female (some examples are Proverbs 7:4 and 8:1)
To CB4UP:
1 Corinthians says that because it was the practice of idol worshipers in that town to shave their heads and leave them uncovered. We are to be different from them.
I Matthew 5:28-29 it is the man who is sinning. It had little to do with a woman speaking the word of God.
Titus 2:5- yes women should be obedient to their husbands and are in charge of keeping the home. Yet a wife of noble character (Proverbs 31) also is making investments and (v. 26) ‘She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.’
Don’t forget in Ephesians 5 where it says ‘Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.’ That goes along with ‘husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her’
I don’t put all my faith in a few verses by Paul in Timothy. Especially when the rest of the Bible doesn’t seem to back it up. Deborah was a military leader, poet, prophet and judge, she used her talents to inspire Israel during a dark time. Miriam was a prophet. What if Ester had never spoken up?

I think that although the Bible is the Word of God, it was obviously written by men, who aren't infalliable. Not to mention that it was written yonkers ago back when things were a bit different with regard to women's place in society.
That is not to say that most of the Bible isn't accurate, but I tend to think certain bits are more obviously the creations of the actual authors than anything else.

ppssst this is the year 2007
we no longer stone people for wearing mixed cloth , or eating shellfish
things have changed , times have changed
women are given different roles now according to the era that we live in
being a Christian means you believe in Jesus , accepting him as the son of God
it does NOT mean that you obey 2000 year old laws
who are you to tell others whether they are a Christian or not
are you perfect ?
