16 + 2 months. At the time in Virginia (could still be true, don't know) you had to take a drivers ed class and have your learners permit 6 months before the license. I didn't get my learners permit on schedule and had to wait for the license.

In Australia you can go for your learners permit at the age of 16. You have to have this learners permit for 12 months and then you can go for your licence. You also have to have a log book showing that you have had 100 hours of learner driving before you can go for licence

But I was thinking about this a while back, I was driving big, BIG, buldozers for years before that! I could have bulldozed houses if I wanted or made a mistake!!!
