It would strike me as strange if I wasn't already so cynical about the religion!
Life can be "tough" and "cruel" are two phrases that we use which personifies life in a way to make it easier to understand from a human point of view. Truth is, life is neither.
Christians would, for the most part, believe that life has intentions and a plan, which is reminiscent of the Santa Story; be good all year and you'll get a gift at the end.
Religious people have to pick and choose their ideologies from a book of contradictions, evil and nonsense. Finding the good points can be a task in itself, so they make up their own ideas - completely voiding their holy scripture....
It's mind bogglingly bizarre that they can still convince themselves that they are correct in what they believe.
I think it's escapism in its purest form. Whatever happens they always have something to look forward to.
Someone dies - "we'll meet them again"
Natural Disaster - "god works in mysterious ways" (ie they are trying to find a benefit to hundreds of people dying)
So they will all have different interpretations of the bible which to me means that the bible is flawed, it should be the perfect book if dictated by an almighty god who should technically be the best author.
It should be clear and concise if it's based on a firm idea.
It should be easy to read because god does NOT create all men equal...
It should be relevant through the ages if god is omniscience.
It should be a tempting read for EVERYONE if god is omnipotence.
It's none of the above and admitting that would be the end of Christianity as an organised religion - so they grab onto their patched up dreams and squeeze their eyes tight shut to show how hard they are believing.

To be a Christian is to be a follower of Christ...his lifestyle and his words as per the Gospels.
Jesus said that no man may 'see' the Kingdom of God unless he be born again.....and no man may 'enter' the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. So unless one is "Saved" by being born again and is "Spiritfilled" with an indwelling of the Holy Spirit then one is NOT a Christian. There are steps to take to fulfil these needs.
People who believe in God are not necessarily Christians (satan and his demons believe in God). People who go to Church are not necessarily Christians. People who have been Christened or baptised at birth or soon after are not Christians.
Being a CHRISTian is a choice we make when we are of an age to understand what we are doing. We have to take the two steps mentioned above and try our hardest to follow the path Jesus set....but we all fail as we all fall short of the Glory of God. We do however live with a God of Grace, mercy, love and compassion...and who understands how and why we fail.
He is also a God of forgiveness.
Best wishes, Mike.

Dont tell me scientists dont differ
This is not a very good argument against religion. Just because some people might get some things wrong about God doesnt mean God doesnt exist.
God deals in scientific principles. Why do so many atheists make the assumption that christians are against science. Because they dont believe in the THEORY of evolution. Guess what, a lot of atheists and scientists dont believe in it too or at least admit to the flaws in the theory and the possibility it isnt the way life began.
My problem with traditional christianity is that they say there is the Bible, that is it, and that is all God ever will or have given us to know him. I dont believe that. I believe that Gods church is still guided by prophets and apostles and that God wouldnt just abandon his people.
But since most people believe the Bible is it and all there is then how can they ever have the revelation to know what it actually meant if they dont believe in prophetic revelation anymore. So they are left to intepret based on their own knowldege and biases. Thus you get a thousand diff sects.

It might have something to do with the 50 or so different versions of the Bible in English alone. However if you were to ask 10 Christians what it means to be a Christian, ninety percent would answer "To be a Christian i have to not respect other Religions.I have to make fun of other Religions.I don't believe that Mary is the Mother of God.I refuse to believe that Jesus is God.I have to say Catholics worship idols. I have to make fun of Priests for sins they have committed.I would rather be seduced by the Devil than follow God's rules. I refuse to believe that Mary was taken body and soul into Heaven.I have to study the Bible daily instead of praying for the conversion of sinners.I have to tell Atheists they will go to Hell for not being a"Christian." These are just a few things i must do to become a "good Christian" .

There are two types of "Christian", those who are churchgoers and have fixed ideas and won't even consider that they might be wrong. The Bible is taken literally by them and anyone saying otherwise is a heretic. Then there are the Christians who are not regular churchgoers but see the Bible as containing good rules to live by but accept it was written by Man; some parts with good intentions but other parts deliberately distorted firstly on a racist route and secondly to sustain the power of 'the church'. The latter group teach their children good living and good community spirit. Many of the first group do so too but there are those there who think merely attending church makes them a good Christian.
So in answer to your question, because of the above, there is a huge variation in Christians' ideas and ideals. DB

You think that's bad?
Scientists at the Institute for Animal Health in Edinburgh secured a £200,000 government grant to find out whether BSE has jumped the "species barrier" from cows into sheep. An inquiry is now under way after it was found that scientists had been mistakenly testing cattle brains instead of sheep brains for five years.
The US National Institutes of Health investigatory panel found the immunologist Thereza Imanishi-Kari had fabricated data in a 1986 research paper authored with the Nobel prize winner David Baltimore. The findings claimed in the paper promised a breakthrough for genetic modification of the immune system.
Oxbridge historian Hugh Trevor-Roper authenticated the Hitler Diaries, unveiled as an exclusive by the German-based Stern magazine. The diaries were later exposed as a hoax.
In 1989 chemists Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischman, of the University of Utah, claimed to have solved the world's energy problems by discovering cold fusion. However, no-one has since been able to replicate their findings of nuclear fusion in heavy water.
Nasa scientists launched the Hubble telescope to create a lens 10 to 20 times more powerful than those based on earth. A gross design error in the main mirror was discovered immediately after launch in April 1990. Hundreds of millions of pounds were needed for the astronaut repair of the mirror.
A French physicist, René Blondlot, claimed to have discovered a new type of radiation, shortly after Roentgen had discovered X-rays. American physicist Robert Wood, however, revealed that N-rays were little more than a delusion. Wood removed the prism from the N-ray detection device, without which the machine couldn't work. Yet, Blondlot's assistant still claimed he found N-rays.
Cyril Burt, the 1960s guru of British psychology, produced research into the intelligence of identical twins which, among other findings, led to the assertions that academic standards were falling. Years later the statistics were found to be "too perfect" and it was discovered the twins - and even the researcher alleged to have carried out the work - never existed.
In 1913 an ape's jaw with a canine tooth worn down like a human's was uncovered at a site near Piltdown. British paleoanthropologists came to accept the idea that the fossil remains belonged to a single creature who had a human cranium and an ape's jaw - offering the missing link between apes and humans in the evolutionary chain. In 1953, Piltdown 'man' was exposed as a forgery. The skull was modern and the teeth on the ape's jaw had been filed down.
Sir Isaac Newton - the scientist who single-handedly created the foundations of modern day physics had a little known obsession with alchemy, and was convinced for much of his life that he would be able to change base metals into gold. Such a discovery would have helped with his later job as master of the mint, but never materialised.
There are still flat earth societies where people propose (and prove) elaborate explanations for why the world actually is shaped like a pancake.
Maybe those who swear by science shouldn't be too quick to criticise religion eh?

Christians express their beliefs differently. But the one constant you will find in their answers is that God loves us and that Jesus died for our sins. Every body has their own way of looking at things, just like you would get ten differ ant answers from non believers. But you need to read the Bible for your self. But If you don't believe in the Bible or in God, what should it matter to you how many differ ant answer are given? I don't ask atheist why they believe the way they do, because it is their business, that is why I don't get 10 different answers. I know what I believe and that no one can change my mind, so I don't worry what others say or think about my belief.
By the way, do you know 10 physicists? If you do, I challenge you to get 10 unified answers from them, if you can.

WHO IS THE BIBLE CALLING CHRISTIANS
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
People say," I think", or " I believe". They may not agree with their on religions, which the religions may not agree with the bible and these may not agree with the bible, but have their own feelings about a subject, feelings do not count for anything. Philip.2:5,9-12; Christ knew the bible, 2Tim.2:15; rightly divide the word of truth and quote 10 bible writers on a subject as the subject of resurrection, how many bible writers give out this subject.

There is a lot of bad teaching going on out there. Read the Bible and weigh what it says with what Christians say. If it's true, it will be in there. Anything else is just opinion.

If you got the same answer from everyone you'd be talking to the members of a cult!
Science is about observable truths in the physical world. The spiritual world is more complex. My interpretation as a Christian comes from the Bible: we are by nature objects of wrath, dead to God. For us to become alive to spiritual realities we need the Holy Spirit to work in our lives to cause us to trust in Christ's death on our behalf and his resurrection power at work in our lives. Of course, even then we're fallible, mortal human beings, works in progress of God, who won't fully renew us until he gets rid of this world and creates a new and perfect one!
