There are several ways to stop nosebleeds, my favorite is to have a person sit down hold and icepack wrapped in a towel at the base of the skull and have them tilt their head slightly forward. Pinch the fleshy part of the nose together and hold for about a minute or two. The reason I prefer this method is because when you apply ice to and area, the blood vessels slowly constrict cutting down the flow of blood to the affected site. Tilting the head slightly forward keeps the blood from getting into your airway, whereas if you tilt your head back you are swallowing your own blood or could accidently inhale it. (Not a pleasant experience) And of course applying pressure helps the blood to clot in the affected area. Everyone has their own method and hopefully you will find one that works best for you!

Hope this has helped!
Take care.

Simple way is to sit upright and pinch the nose closed firmly.

For a more troublesome bleed, twist a facial tissue into a pack and wet it with cold or ice water, just until it is cold and wet but not mushy. Put into nose as far as it will go comfortably and pinch nose. Wait at least 5 minutes and remove gently.

Bend forward and pinch your nose together for at least one minute. Your blood will clot and stop bleeding.

Ask the person to calm down - make him sit in quiet low lit place - ask him to sit on a low comfortable stool and bend forward on a wall and pinch his own nose tightly. ask him to sit out the blood not swallow it.

Don't ask him to lie down if he may sit up comfortably but if he cannot support himself make him lie in "recovery position". ie lie on the side with pillow beneath the hips to make head down position. arm and leg placed on upper-side are bent to 90 degree. lower arm and leg are straight

Tilt head backwards while applying pressure to hold nostrils shut count to 100. Works great with kids it takes their mind off of BLOOD long enough to stop the bleeding.

tilt head back and a great trick is to put pennies on the bridge of your nose. it sounds dumb but the copper actually helps your blood clot.
