Jesus also said, "Do not give what is holy to dogs." Notice that so many of the people who answered your question do not only not know but reject Christianity. Your question on this format only has value in that it lets one see the condition of some of the late night audience.
Jesus is God with the Father and the Holy Spirit. How this is true will only come from the Holy Spirit.
A zen saying applies here. He who says does not know and he who knows does not say.

This situation is no different than the many other times that Jesus prays to the Lord. Do remember the story of the Devil tempting Jesus? The same questions could be asked of this situation. Why would Satan try to tempt Jesus if Jesus was actually part of God?

The answer is simple. God 'reincarnated' himself as Jesus. He instilled a human being with all the love and understanding that he had, as well as every other human trait. Do you recall the story of Jesus getting angry at the moneychangers in the temple and throwing them out? There is another example of Jesus displaying very human emotion.

The emotion Jesus demonstrates during his crucifixtion is doubt. He knows that he is God's son but he is still human. The whole point to God coming to earth in the form of Jesus is to experiance the range of human emotion, to form a new covenant with man. God put a part of himself into a man's body to show us that, even when you are filled with doubt and pain, it's possible to overcome these things and do the 'right thing'.

I might suggest that you read 'Memnoch the Devil' by Anne Rice. It's a conversation with Satan, about how he came to be the way that he is. It's not a 'Christian' book, but it offers some great insight into the way things might have happened. It discusses the fact that God could make himself 'forget' certain things, and live out a 'normal' human exsistence as the savior and Messiah without having foreknowledge and omnipotence. In other words, God might have instilled in Jesus SOME divine knowledge, but not EVERYTHING. Then, when reunited with God after the crucifixtion, Jesus would be 'let in' on all of God's knowledge, and they would become One.

By the way...I am a staunch athiest. That doesn't mean that I can't engage in an intelligent theological discussion. I have been reading the Bible for over 30 years. I find religion fascinating.

Jesus is the son of God.
There are many verses in the Bible that proves this. After studying the bible and doing my research to understand the bible, I have learned that Jesus is the Son of the Almighty God. In the end when Jesus returns to restore the world back to the way God originally intended for us to live in it, Jesus subjects to the Father everything including the world and himself. **God has no beginning nor does He have and end, God can't die**

For those that believe in the Trinity would not agree with this, but it is all there in the Bible.

Read: 1 Corinthians 15:22-28
Also Read: Colossians 1:1-17

Note: Jesus did not go about declaring he was the "Christ" or the "Anointed One." He did not encourage his disciples to do so. Jesus inquired, "Who do men say that the son of man is" (Matt. 16:13-20)? The answers were: Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Nothing very dramatic, was it? Nobody guessed he was the "Christ"—much less God. No!—not even His disciples. Jesus asked, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter’s answer pleased our Lord—"You are the Christ [Anointed], the Son of the living God." That was correct. Only by the aid of the holy Spirit was Peter able to speak thus.

John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." God the Father, God the Son(Jesus), which is clearly stated in John 3:16, and God the Holy Spirit are three distinct persons. Three beings if you will. They are all God because they are of the same essence. All three have the same power. In these ways they are One. In the Bible it says there is one God. All three beings are God because when Jesus gave the great commission He told the apostles baptize the world in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Centuries after the time of Christ on Earth, the leaders of the Christian movement got together (that the order of Emperor Constantine) to settle many debates once and for all. One of these debates was the divinity of Christ (was he or was he not God Himself). The obvious result of that debate changed the face of Christianity even to this date. Prior to this, there were mixed beliefs and many different branches of believers, much like the variety of denominations we have today.

It was a moderately-sized group of men that decided this was a fact under great pressure by the new Emperor of Rome (who was a pagan who persecuted Christians most of his life, until he has a vision, invented the traditional cross as a religious symbol and converted to Christianity to recruit more soldiers into his army, hard to digest but historical fact none-the-less). Believe as you wish to about that question. Don't let someone dictate their beliefs on you. The only important thing to remember here is that Jesus is the messiah, sent to Earth by God to fulfill a promise he made to the people of Israel; a message intended for all those willing to listen. So long as you believe that, everything else about Christ's divinity will be made apparent to us all one day.

"even though i know some will post an idiotic comment...hopefully they can be removed...anways"

I guess "Christians" aren't for freedom of speech or anything like that, ah no, the message here is "If you don't think like me, don't speak to me, or I shall cut out your tongue."

How "Christian" of you. You are confused.
You need some training at being HUMAN.
I might have wanted to help you if you had shown compassion for fellow humans, that one simple thing Jesus taught, but, you are no "Christian", you are just a poser. Name calling is wrong. You shouldn't call others who may be smarter than you 'idiotic'. I was just saying in the another question I answered, that I can show so many examples of "Christians" calling others "moron"...right here on Yahoo! Answers...it makes me sick. Look for yourself. And at yourself. Is that you, dear reader?
Also, you shouldn't label yourself and others, there are more religions in the world than you ever imagined. Don't make up your mind about things so quick.

I am horrified to see you passing judgement as if you were the one to condemn anyone to any fate-"thank you for your sincere response and to the ignorant ones u will be getting whats coming to you soon enough"
Is that a threat? You need an attitude adjustment.

I am not a "Christian" either. And proud of it.
I am, however, compassionate, have empathy, know Jesus, and base my thoughts on reality, not some false worship, which is a sin in itself.

Bump...
this question was basically asked about a half an hour ago.

Seriously though, it has to do with the whole three in one thing. Man is mind, body, and spirit just like God is God the father (mind), Jesus the son (body) and Holy Spirit (spirit).

It is a bit alarming, however, that Christians who are supposed to be knowledgeable cannot grasp the simple concept of the trinity. (not directed at the asker only a few of the answer'ers).

The arguments that Jesus == God are pretty weak. The view that Jesus is Jesus and God is God is called unitarianism. There is a denomination with this name but it is different.

When faced with something that is not clear you can reserve judgment. One reason people feel strongly is that this Jesus==God is drilled into heads and you are asked to believe it. The only thing you need to believe is that God loves you.

This is not the perfect answer, but it may be helpful somewhat. The truth is, there is only one God, but three Persons (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). This is close to saying: there is one mankind but three men (such as Peter, Paul and Barnabas). [Credit goes to St. Gregory of Nyssa.]

Jesus was not talking to Himself, but to the Father on the Cross. When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, the Father said to Him, “This is My beloved Son in whom I AM well pleased,” and the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove. Accordingly, They are 3 distinct Persons, but of one God(kind). Another way of saying is that They are 3 distinct Persons who are of one Divine ESSENCE whose title, function and name is God.

Christ was only a part of God. He was part of the devine, but he was also his own seperate man. When he was on the cross calling out "father" he was talking as the man to the devine part of himself.

That is what I understand. I know that you had asked for Christians only to answer. But you also asked for sincere answers. This is the way that I understand how his existance was. I myself do not beleave in it. But I have also taken the time to at least learn about the beliefs of others so that I can better understand what they are talking about when they are telling me about their faith.

I do however have a problem with the fact that you think that someone that is an athiest automatically a lier. Just because someone chooses that there is no religios practice that fits them, does not mean that they do not have their own code of morals. Also, just because someone has a different belief than you (you being christian) does not make their beliefs evil, satanist, or anything along those lines. They just believe in something different than you.
