I have a IBM Thinkpad T60 with only VGA output, and I've been looking for a cable to display on an HDTV. This cable I've presumed would work, but I am not sure.

yep you can get a firewire or usb converter which will allow you to push diff ways of outputs.. try going to bestbuy, compusa, or circuit city to find a external box.. it might not produce out hdtv quality due to the fact that is a video card option and t60 don't have that option. so goodluck on your hunt..

You need more than a cable. You need a video converter box.
VGA is RGB, but most TVs require YCbCr.
