Well im an american living in Australia now...and the aussies are a bit rude to me... they pay me out.. yet they love the accent. There is only the few.. but they are friendly and they will try to make you at home.
I guess the best way to adjust is dont compare australia to your old home or you will get home sick. Look at all the benefits of the place... and I think you shoudl be fine. Just try to get used ot the aussie way of life..

Maybe you could join some sort of community group in your area,or a church,or you could volunteer at a local charity.Get to know some people.I've noticed that fears are often allayed when you have a supportive friend.

You should definetley get in contact with your local community service centre. They can help you with all kinds of different things- support groups and meeting new people, financial aid if you need it, councelling and are basicly the first port of call and can refer you on to a range on differnt services that are all free!
To find your local, look in the yellow pages or call the operator (usually 1223).
Hope that helps.

We don't bite. Well, not very often. Why not start talking to your neighbours?
