It is opinionated. To me the American dream means that no matter who you are what color you are or were you came from you will have opportunities to pursue happiness, wealth, and freedom. In no other country are you as a person more able to do that than in the U.S.

It's your very own home in a nice neighborhood. 2 late model cars in the garage. A manicured lawn.
A good white collar job, an attractive mate, a couple of kids, good schools.
Got the picture.
Sometimes the term is used to mean 'as much wealth as you care to achieve' . Most the time it just means a really nice life.

To be free and have enough to live on. To be healthy and if you get sick, hope you can afford it. Religious freedom, right to vote, and follow the laws to stay free. Being thankful what we do have and the education out there-all it`s possibilities for the young. We have choices and our voices can be heard. Free to travel, getting paid vacations, social security, and help for the disabled and our veterens. United Way,Red Cross, charities and how we help each other as Americans in times of disaster. Our men and women serve our country to help us stay free and it is great to be proud to be American. As American as apple pie and football as it can get. FREEDOM-yes![but not for illegals by the way]

To bring our troops home from Iraq and deport all of these illegals. I think that an amendment to the Constitution that ends birthright citizenship to kids of illegals is on that list too. To have our country, healthcare, social security, and general security back too. Oh yes, and a complete overhaul on this government that has left our borders wide open and attempted to demolish our own childrens future education and security.

It is to have your own house with a yard, maybe a couple kids, and enough free time to do some fun stuff, like travel around, or take your jetski out on the lake.

...sick with barbiturates, possibly? american dream is only right to abuse already much abused americans. the benefits of america have absolutely nothing to do with land, education or a big house with two sedans parked in driveway, contrary to popular belief and would be rushed to your living room via far from correct "politically correct" national tv advertising and programming. it has to do only with the collective ability to foster a society which has progressed at expense and sacrifice of those who never benefit from its amenities, 1) proclaiming and establishing rights and freedoms of individual self determination and due liberty interests and 2)overthrowing totalitarian government forms; kings, rulers, divine despots, fascism and communism in purist form. the problem with this dream however is that it only works when it can be dreamt in pure form, free of liberal democrat clinton, o'bama purely racist, "open season on white folks" platform corruption or stringent bush agenda preempts all legality above the law platform corruption. the american dream is heading for rude awakening, pun entirely intended. america will only regain its dream by purging gargantuan corruption on both sides of spectrum, nothing short of major overhaul, that has imperiled and derailed it. in summary, "the american dream" is sick with barbiturates! say all that with a mouth full of marbles and backwards at a loud rap poetry reading! ...to get the american dream drug and corruption free, be watching this commentators questions and feel encouraged to add your answers and comments! pleasant dreaming, thanks!

RIght now, it's getting into a minor accident and collecting workers comp for the rest of your life.
It use to be to work hard and smart and you might have a chance in succeeding, but taxing the middle class too death to give some benefits to the poor makes impossible for the poor to move into the middle class.

it used to be a job, a patch of land, and a family. Now its just to not get sunk by our own government. Or to at least have a life vest when the rebellion takes over.
