if you know English you already know about 100 more Spanish words, than any of the others. here are some examples...exam = examen
doctor = el doctor
music = musica
inform = informar
some are exactly the same....adorable, imitable, comfortable ( the list goes on and on) English, Spanish, and Italian are Latin based", the others will be more difficult. The way the language is spoken correctly, uses much different vocal nuances than your used to. the Asian ones probably hardest from English, The French language is elegant sounding, but the nasal projection in words like "memb" in the phrase "plu sa channnge, plu sa memb chaange" from the second half of my favorite French saying.."the more things change the more they remain the same" will take alot more practice time than say rolling R's in Spanish. The German language is so deliberate, and the verbs "descriptively empower" a sentence along a dialog just in the mere pronunciation of some words.. amusingly interesting to me, Dutch is like that also. Russian and German have different alphabet, Chinese is the most efficient, they can say a paragraph of English in an effortless short sentence, of sounds. Spanish and Italian are the most pleasing to the ear, just listen to a contemporary love song in each of these languages and you'll know exactly what I mean. I only wish I had spent all my education time on nothing but languages....now thats a great life, just think, to know more than 4 you will be in demand, paid travelling, and your job, simply speaking, and you will always, be able to hear and tell the untainted versions of such communications...

I think that Russian is the hardest. German is also a bit hard to learn, because there are many rules of grammatic.
For learning Italian I took 6 months, but there are people who say, that it is a difficult language. I don't think so, but I don't know how would it be for you.
If I were in you I would take Spanish, Italian or French.

German isn't that bad. What I found to be the hardest thing is memorizing articles and which words they go to. There's not really a pattern except for in a few cases. My sister, who does speak German quite well, said that Spanish was very challenging for her. It's got complicated subjunctives and she couldn't get the stressed syllables to sound right. She gave up on that language after a couple of classes. I guess what is a complicated language to one person might not be so to another. It has to do with personal motivation, interest, and having an ear for languages.

I took French for 3 years and the hardest part of it was the conjugating of the verbs. My husband took Spanish and said the same thing. Otherwise, both were easy to pick up. I know some who seem to think German and Russian are rather hard.

Spanish is the easiest. French is the hardest because basically for one English word, you need like three words. Like L'arc en ciel is rainbow for example. French is called "the educated man's language" or something like that I believe.
Note: English is the hardest and most complicated language to date.
