Ever read the words to The Star Spangled Banner? I doubt that most people in Yahoo Answers can even sing it. Ever watched the Olympics and got a chill when the Americans won the gold medal, and at the presentation the Star Spanggled Banner Anthem was played? Did it make you proud to be an American?
The facts are, that Americans love to win. In sports, in war, in business, in education, in everything we do. It doesnt matter if you are liberal, conservative, Democrat or Republican. Those who choose not to win, or to leave in defeat, retreat, or surrender because of their political beliefs do not have the true American spirit.
Our American military has liberated more people than any other country. Why? Because we want others to have the same freedoms that we do. The right to live without fear. The right not to be oppressed. Americans have always stood up to tyranny wherever it exists. Its the American way.
I hear all the time the phrase, " I support the troops, but dont support the war". Thats nonsense. You cannot support the troops without supporting thier mission. Tell any military member that you support them, but dont support what they are doing. Thats exactly what they dont want to hear. Thats like telling them that you support them going hunting, but dont support them killing anything.
I keep hearing the phrase "illegal war" . Just what is an illegal war? We have one Commander in Chief. Whether you like him or not doesnt matter. Our forefathers set it out plainly for good reason. The Commander in Chief is well aware of situations that the general public is not aware of, that concerns national security, or American interests. Things that even Congress is not aware of. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians makes for bad decisions. Thats where our Congress is today. They want to be the Commander in Chief.
Every American has the right to question authority if they feel in thier hearts that its wrong. Thats what makes America great. We have the right to vote someone in or out. It doesnt matter if the President is Democrat or Republican, we as Americans need to feel secure. Flying my American flag makes me feel secure, not what goes on in Washington D. C.
My 18 year old Grandaughter has just joined the Army. She wasnt talked into it. A recruiter didnt visit her, her family didnt persuade her, nor was she desperate. She is well educated, and got a free ride to college. Why did she join you ask? Because she loves her country and wants to serve. That is patriotism my friends. She has more guts at 18 than 90% of our Congressmen and Senators have. She is willing to fight, they are not. Makes you wonder doesnt it? I am very proud of her.
Please read the words to the National Anthem from the site below. It will tell you what true patriotism is.

A little leap in logic there . Problem is you didn't make it to the other side , and crashed into the Canyon of Unreality.
Let me explain it step by step .
1) The President (any president) does NOT = the country
2) The country does not = The War
3) Questioning/criticizing HOW something is done does NOT necessarily = disapproval of WHAT is being done (Some people support the general objective , but not how we've gone about it .)
4) Therefore, logically , 1) & 2) mean that disapproval/ questioning/ criticizing the president &/or the war does NOT = disloyalty /dislike/ or an attack upon the country .
Think of it this way : Do you think anyone that questioned our involvement in Bosnia &/or Kosovo (such as GW Bush) , or criticized Clinton for it, was unpatriotic? I don't think so . Clinton didn't ever try to suggest that . I don't remember ANYONE making any such accusations.

What is one person's idea of patriotism is another's idea of a traitor. During election years, that pretty much sums up the two party system. At the risk of pissing you off further, you should know that flying a flag is good, but it's not a requirement to qualify as a patriot. In my humble opinion, if you support President Bush and this insane war, you are not patriotic, you are ill-informed. I support peace and value the lives our young people that Bush sends to fight, and possibly be maimed or killed, in a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Saudi Arabia did, though, and all but one of the terrorists of 9/11 were from that country. But the Bush family is in business with the bin-Laden family, so you don't see him doing anything about that! So, what I consider patriotism is defying this President...not idolizing the idiot!

As troops returned from Vietnam terribly injured they were spat on and similar things are happening again!! Sadly such terrible hatred is the mark of BAD Americans!! No wonder so many returning vets commit suicide when they realize they have suffered to defend people with attitudes like yours!! Homeland Security is having to put more and more time and resources into tracking christians who seek to tear up the constitution, destroy democracy and foment a second civil war to install a christian dictatorship!! A chilling warning was issued to US police forces about the threat of a rise in violent right wing and christian extremist groups fueled by recession and hostility over the election of the first black president!! Seems these people are not just a bigger threat to American freedoms than external terrorists but completely anti American!!!

can do is question the government- it is the thing that is supposed to keep them honest and accountable to the American people. The government is supposed to govern the willing, with their consent. The governed should control the government, not the other way around. That is how the contract between the American government and the American people is set up. "Either you're with us, or you're against us!" is a great tactic that derives it's power from the masses of the ignorant.

They are your inalienable rights! They are your protection from a tyrannical government. Fight ignorance, educate yourselves!

Have you been in a coma?
You answered your own question by displaying exactly how unpatriotic and un-American you are.
Being American means you have a civic duty to question authority and to express you dissenting opinion when it comes to our leaders.
In 2000 I voted for Bush because I perceived him as the lesser of 2 evils. Now I deeply regret that decision and I have learned from my mistake. The Republican Party abandoned my values and became the Tax and spend lunatic party of the Religious Right. I could no longer in good conscience support that. so I am now an Active democrat and a Precinct Chair. I even ran for office last year. What have you done?
What I did is a Real American value and real American action. I did something about what pisses me off rather than coming in here and whining like a sniveling child.
It was people like you that would still have the Redcoats guarding our streets because it would have been wrong to Question the King because questioning authority is un-patriotic.
If you want to know what happened you need to visit a library. You haven't opened a newspaper since 2003 have you?

That's what happened. Bush lost track of 911 and catching Bin Laden and got involved in a war that had nothing to do with 911. Read the 911 commission report some day. BTW it took the Democrats getting elected before Congress started passing the recommendations of the 911 Commission.

Flying the flag every day makes it lose its specialness. I fly mine at appropriate days, like July 4th, Memorial Day, etc.
I don't hate Bush, I hate the things he has done. I don't support the war because it had nothing to do with 9/11.
I love my country and will do anything I can to keep its principles and rights strong.
