What is the nature of the event you wish to disremember?
Let's suppose it was an episode of embarassment.
You need to make a new and positive memory with a different outcome. Then you will be less willing to rehearse the embarassing one.
Let's say it was an episode of terror and horror or trauma.
If you try to never speak of it....it will come back to haunt you.
As a therapist said, "To speak of the secret breaks its power in half." If the strength of the memory is a strong one, it may take years for its strength to lose its power, and for the memory to melt into the background. Therapy/Counseling where you look at the event while being coached by the therapist, it can really aid a person toward healing. And from healing comes the fading of the memory into the background of your life.
If you are unable to participate in professional therapy, get yourself a blank notebook and begin writing. Start with what happened, how it made you feel, how you reacted, what questions did it rise within you?.....etc..........

You and me both !!!! However...I do forget things...just not the things I want to forget. Memories I want to forget even come into my dreams (they're called nightmares). I did read somewhere..I think online..that they've come out with a drug that helps veterans with PTSD forget things...and last night somebody mentioned something about a therapy they do with your eyes lately. I haven't researched either of them yet tho. Maybe you should check into it. If you have PTSD...half mg. risperdal helps me..quiets my brain down too. (those bad memories like to "party" sometimes)PS..That medicine is called propranolol (hope that's spelled right) Google it. I saved it in a folder...just for you !!!! lolPS again...that other thing is called EMDR...you can google it.

if there is a painful memory you want to forget or "reframe", look up www.emdr.com It worked for me to overcome painful memories with my father's death.

Deny all knowledge of whatever it is people are asking you about. Okay, it's not really 'losing' your memory, but it's as close as you'll get to it. ;Op

you could drink yourself silly and pass out, or start banging your head against a wall for hours. That ought to do it.
