Lots to do in Amsterdam (and London as well.)
Here is a link to a site with a lot of info on Amsterdam:

Click on museums or sights to find about the many things to do, places to visit.
Just remember that a lot of places (museums) close on New Years day, and that public transport will be stopped in the evening on NYE, to start again (in Amsterdam) about 2 or 3 AM, ask at your hotel if you need a tram or bus to get 'home'.

New Year eve is a party night in the Netherlands with lots of (privately fired) fireworks, and parties running till the sun comes up or later.

A good way to enjoy Amsterdam on a Sunday (and new years day is a Sunday as far as business is considered) is just roaming round, walking along the canals, and visiting a corner pub, (called cafe) for a hot chocolate with whipped cream and if you want a dash of something alcoholic.

And here are links for touristic information about London and a list with museums:

In London it is good to have a pass that allows you unlimited use of bus and underground, but walking around is also possible.

London is really spread out, but right in the downtown area near Trafalgal Square you can walk to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and lots of neat little shops. You can get maps of the "tube" (subway) system - it's all color coded, so it's pretty easy to jump on one to check out the Tower of London which is also neat to see. Check out www.experienceAmsterdam.com for some great info about visiting there. Also, be sure to check out money issues. I know it is usually better to exchange money at a Post Office rather than a hotel because the exchange rate is cheaper! Also, not all places take credit cards. Another thing to check into is the tipping policies. In some places, it is an insult! The internet is absolutely packed full of tourist information for traveling abroad. The best advice is always be courteous and always keep your wits about you, don't go into questionable areas, especially overseas. Stick to the "tourist" spots and enjoy! You will have a great trip!

bring a lot of money because their pound is double our dollar. and don't accept hotel accomodations from folks walking around in train stations, no matter how tired you are. they will turn out to be the worst rooms you've ever stayed in. and watch what you eat in amsterdam, remember - you don't have to smoke weed to get high as hell.
