This was taken directly from a Christian answer. Not the first time I've seen it either. Where do people get such stuff?

hrgirl1701: The few notes in the writings of Josephus pertaining to Jesus were proven to be forgeries a long time ago. Don't you read?

the phantom: I use to believe as you do. I found it too hard to ignore the facts, so here I am. I like your post. Very honest, well thought out, and no stupid comments like I'm so use to seeing here. Very well done. You are a credit to Christianity, and these days Christianity can use all the credits it can get. Take care.

I have always wondered why Josephus is the first historian to mention jesus himself outside the bible. There were many historians writing at the time of or very shortly ( not 60 years) after jesus and not a single one ever mentioned him. There is no writings of him anywhere before Paul and his epistles. Surely a miracle working son of god witnessed by thousands would warranted at least a mention?
How bout a record of a trial or his execution written less than 35 years after him (Mark). Surely your lord and saviour dying on a cross should be written about like post haste.

It's primarily people pulling statements out of hat without doing their "homework". Of course there's more historical evidence that George Washington existed - He lived only a little over two hundred years ago, which is fairly recent by historical standards. We still have letters written by him, military orders signed by him, etc. He's still listed as the highest ranking U.S. officer ever by the United States Army.

Jesus is a little harder to come up with historical evidence for, and that's understandable - he lived about two thousand years ago, most people back then didn't read or write so most of this stuff was passed on by word of mouth long before it was written down. Still, there is enough to satisfy me. The way I see it, something had to have happened back then in that time and place for such a movement to take hold and literally conquer most of the world by faith. I don't think it could have happened on the back of a supposedly made-up personage. Most of the original Apostles died as martyrs for their faith and belief, as did a lot of the next generation of Christians.

And yes, not only is lying a sin, but you wouldn't catch George Washington doing it ;-)

Gullible sheeple liars believe lies. Yet they believe that all they have to do is apologize to their god and since a crazy guy was crucified a couple thousand years ago, they will be forgiven and join the rest of the hypocrites in paradise. But, evolution... is a crazy theory devised by people who are merely trying to test their stupidity, er, I mean faith. There were are lot of meticulous historians who lived in his geographical location during his lifetime, yet not one of them shows any record of him ever being alive. Seems a bit suspect. We have 'ole G. Washington's wooden teeth and a hell of a lot more to prove his existence. Does their stupidity know no bounds?

Well I think that may be an exaggeration. It seems odd that we would have more evidence on Jesus Christ, who lived over a thousand years ago than we do the leader of our country who lived 200 years ago. I think it may have more to do with a spiritual belief than a scientific belief?

But yes, lying is a sin. No idea where they get it. Not christian, so...

I honestly don't know how much evidence thereis for George Washington. I would assume there is plenty and that his existence was never in question. The only reason why Jesus is even questioned is because people simply don't like what he said and did and stood for. There is ample historical proof that he existed in more cases than simply Josephus. There was Cornelius Tacticus a Roman historian born in 52-A.D. He alludes to the death of Christ and the presence of Christians in Rome. There was Lucian of Samasata a satirist of the second century who speaks scornfully of Chirst and mentions his crucifixion for bringing a new cult to the world. I should note not all of Josephus writings are in question only the one where he says he believed. Then there is Suetonius antother Roman historian, court offical under Hadrian, annilist of the Imperial house writes about the disturbances casued by the Jews at the instigation of Chrestus (another spelling of Christus) found inthe life of Claudius 25:4 he also writes of the punishment handed down by Nero against Christians in lives of the Caesars 26:2 Then there is Plinius Secundus (Pliny the Younger) governor of Bithynia in Asia minor A.D.112 sought council how to treat Christians and how he made them curse Christ Epistles X.96 Then there is Tertullian a jurist theologian ofCarthage mentions the exchange between Tiberius and Pontius Pilate. There is Thallus the Samaritan born in 52 A.D. He mentions Christ however his writings have dissapeared and we only know of them from fragments cited by other writers including Julus Africanus. Thallus wrote trying to explain the darkness on the earth on the day Christ died. He attributed it to a solar eclipse which Julis Africanus found illogical as Solar eclipses don't happen at the time of a full moon. And he season Christ died was Pachal (full moon). Then there is Phlegon who's works have been lost. There is a letter by Mara Bar-Serapion written in A.D. 73 He wrote while in prison of the deaths of Socrates, Pythagorus and Christ. Then there is the Jewish Talmuds whih refer to Jesus as Ben Pandera or Pantere and Jeshu Ben Pandera. Speaks of his accusation of sorcery and leading Israel astray. And mentions his hanging on passover in the Babylonia Sanhedrin 43 A.D. it should be noted that none of the historical writers doubet the existance of Christ.

Well there might actually be more actual physical evidence in the form of writings over 2000 years as opposed to 200 years. I don't know if that's the "evidence" they are referring to.

Not atheist or CHristian

Now, be nice to us Christians. There are 250 billion Christians in the world that worship Christ...how many Federalists worship Washington?

I must apologize for that, and I must say I'm not in the habit of apologizing for my fellow Christians. That is a pretty silly statement. However I must add that there is more than ample evidence for the existence of Jesus but I won't address that at this time. It's not the point of this question. God bless!!

From their own "Want To Be" reality.

Whoever uses this as an argument REALLY needs to do some research.
I DON'T get how Christians expect more respect and tolerance from non-Christians when they pull answers out of their hat like this.
Its demeaning towards themselves, and well, its just stupid.
