Hi there girls,

I have medium length hair, but no matter what kind of shampoo and conditioner I use, my hair always ends up dry and coarse feeling, and I use conditioner every day in the morning and let it soak into my hair for a few minutes, but I never come out with shiny, smooth, silky hair like I've seen a lot of girls who know how to keep their hair.

What is your secret? Is there something I'm missing, or us guys are missing as a whole? The only thing I think that might be different is that I towel dry and rub my hair dry, while I've seen some girls leave their hair wet to air dry over a long time. I've tried using a hair dryer but that also makes my hair dry and coarse feeling. Maybe I need to buy those premium salon shampoos and conditioners? You know those beauty salons that charge $50 for a haircut, ugh.

Anyway, yea, so what tips or secrets can you share with me? I'd like shiny, smooth, and silky hair like the rest of you gals or other male celebs with long hair-Tom Cruise

First, know that all of us have different genes that we inherit from our parents that's why we have different hair texture, some people do have a beautiful, shiny hair even though they don't work overtime for their hair.Second, those commercial models have been through a lot of rebonding and the like before they appear into TV commercials for a shampoo or conditioner to persuade markets of its effectiveness although it's not really since most of their products are chemical based.Third, if you really want it to be shine like a pro, try this: hot oil your hair.Try to look in your place a hot oil which is a virgin coconut oil based, do the necessary steps and you'll see the difference. Make sure you do the process once a week okay? You can also use some ingredients in your kitchen like mayonnaise or banana, leave it for 20 minutes in your hair before taking a bath. By the way, don't use conditioner everyday, you can do it every other day but be certain to rinse your hair under running water until you can't see any bubbles coming from your hair or else the residue will build up that cause dandruff, dry hair etc...(oops!don't wait for a longer time before rinsing the conditioner because certainly, "the longer the conditioner in your hair, the smoother and the shinier" is not really true, less than a minute will do its purpose to your hair). Lastly, do rub your scalp with your fingertips as much as you can to generate its natural oil from within. I hope it will help you a lot since it's a big help to me!GBU!

First of all. There is no need to condition everytime you wash your hair. A few things come to mind that might help you. First, you could be washing your hair too much and stripping those natural oils. If you are the type of person who must wash your hair everyday, use a mild shampoo and condition every other time. Second, never rub your hair it frizzes the hair. You can squeeze it with a towel but dont do that quick rubbing thing you guys do. Third, let it air dry mostly and then use a lower heat to blow out your shape. Always always use a heat protectant with a blowdryer or straightener. Lastly, you shoudl seal the ends with something like Frederic Fekkai Smooth Hair.

just a tip, never rub your hair with towels; just blot them. rubbing can damage your hair.

and about your dry and coarse hair, maybe you have another problem? I have always believed that if a person has healthy hair, chances are, so is he. and no, i don't think you need to buy those shampoos from salons.

well, many people say I have beautiful hair and I guess it's because of this routine I do:

- wet your hair with warm water
- shampoo your hair (for girls who have long hair never put your hair up while shampooing because it prevents the bubbles from getting to your scalp).
- rinse with warm water
- use conditioner and wait for a few minutes (if you have tangled hair comb it while you still have conditioner on).
- rinse with cold water
- blot your hair with a towel.
- use a wide-toothed comb (never use a brush when your hair is wet).

that's about it. hope it helps :D

Use a clarifying shampoo twice a month to remove residue. Also, rotate between 2 different shampoos, do not use the same one every single day.

Trimming your hair will keep it healthier. Garnier Fructis and Herbal Essences make really good shampoos that help with shine and texture. Herbal Essences has a line of shampoos out now for specific uses - such as the moisturizing one. Shampoo should be applied close to the scalp and very sparingly on the tips and conditioner should be applied very lightly on the scalp and heavier on the tips.

Also, a well balanced diet does wonders for your hair.

Hmm. It doesn't matter what shampoo or conditioner I use..When I blow dry and straighten my hair, it always looks silky and shiny. Maybe you should try that. And kudos to you for being the only guy I've ever seen worried about his hair. ;)

My husband uses Crew hair products. He has the same problems as you. Plus Crew smells WONDERFUL!!!

If you need to add a little gloss to the ends, you can try Frizz Ease or Paul Mitchell Gloss Drops. (don't put near the roots or hair will look greasy)

oil. I use fructis hair serum...it's grapeseed oil. It makes my hair really shiney and smooth. Just wash your hair and after you dry it, put some of the oil on it. Use a little oil, too much will give you the greasies. Olive oil actually works too...

I also use cheap shampoo and conditioner...the oil is such a lifesaver!

Try not washing for a few days. You can still shower just use water! Then you allow your natural oils to build up.
