how do you connect a tv with 1 hdmi port to comcats hd cable box with hdmi and from cable box to dvd with hdmi

There aren't any DVD players/recorders with HDMI inputs.

To hook up both your cable box and DVD to your TV with one HDMI input, you just need a HDMI switch. The link for examples.

You DON'T...
And the Motion Picture producers are REAL HAPPY about that...

Today's TVs are designed to STOP illegal recording.
So...Connect your CABLE box using HDMI
and Connect your DVD using the 5 wire COMPONENT CABLE.

And if you want to record....(here's the kicker!)
You can ONLY record using the OLD Composite RCA cabling (Yellow white red cables).
Yep, that's ALL they allow....a Low Definition recording to be done...
I'm hoping TIVO comes up with a way to bypass that...
