I do plan on asking the parents. I am giving out candy occasionally not all the time.

Hi. Why don't you try yogurt covered raisins, or all fruit snack like dried fruit. That would be a healthy, fun treat for toddlers. You could even do the yogurt covered/chocolate coveredones, I think they are called Flipz. I hope this helped.

Kids are interesting, a fun snack can be just as appealing as candy. Parents don't always want their children to be given candy at school, but you can get creative with faces on sandwiches or pizza, healthy snacks that they can help make and that their parent's will like too. I let my children have candy on special occasions but some parents don't.

I can tell you just started. Do you have any training? I am an early childhood specialist, and I can tell you one of the first things I learned in college was how to promote healthy eating habits. I recommend fruit, it tastes good and it's got good nutrients in there with it. Foods that have a lot of sugar and oils are not good for children.

Try positive verbal affirmations. I would be very upset if anyone gave candy to my child without my authorization. A high-five or an energetic compliment would be much better!

How about the Gerber snacks? They're healthy, and convenient. Go into the baby aisle at your supermarket, and look for the "Gerber Graduates" snacks, usually in bright yellow packaging. They have things like freeze dried fruits, all natural fruit snacks, cereal bars, and others. Hope this helps!

How about granola bars instead. Quaker has ones that have 25% less sugar than then the regular ones. I would ask the parents first though, just in case of allergies.

mini M&M's

I used to give my son a couple of them when he was 1 or 2 and he thought it was the greatest thing.

I would get permission from the parents before giving out candy.

I don't think I would want anyone giving my 2 year old candy of any kind.

Wal-Mart sometimes carries a really fat, soft peppermint stick. It is virtually impossible to choke on since it dissolves when saliva hits it. Plus they taste really good.

If you gave my 2 year old candy, I would pull them out of your class in a heart beat and demand that you be written up by the school you are working for. 2 year olds should not have candy. If you want to give them a treat, give them graham crackers, goldfish snacks, or raisins (under careful supervision for choking).

This is something you should already know if you have done your child-development units and are licensed to teach toddlers!
