Matthew Chapter 5
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
LUKE CHAPTER 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Christ's purpose was to fulfill all that was written about him in the law, the psalms, and the prophets.
Mat 5:18 For amen I say unto you, TILL heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, TILL all be fulfilled.
Now do a little practical sentence structuring here, for clarity:
There are TWO CONDITIONAL OPERATORS.
TILL heaven and earth pass ... TILL all be fulfilled ... the law shall NOT pass (away)
Meaning ... the law WILL pass away WHEN all things are fulfilled, OR when the world ENDS, whichever comes first.
Luk 24:44 And he said unto them, These [are] the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and [in] the prophets, and [in] the psalms, concerning me.
Joh 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

Teaching about the Law
Matthew 5:17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.

Jesus said that He came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. He, while still God, was the perfect man and thus the only one who could fulfill the requirement of a pure sacrifice to atone for the sins of the world.
The law that required a sacrifice to be made to atone for your sins was put in place as a temporary fix to a permanent problem. It was made to make the people realize their need for a Savior that would reunite them to God in a way that no sacrifice before fully could.
