Unfortunately with you having to work two jobs to make ends meet, in the eyes of the government personal income remains the biggest decision factor as to who gets financial aid and who doesn't. Even if your working just makes ends meet and you surely can't save any on the side for college, because you personally made "X" income (considered operating income) it can disqualify you from grants.

I should know because I was in the same situation as yourself. Ever since I was 16 I had to work 40+ each work to help support myself and my mom, but because I made "X" income, and regardless of the fact that none of it could be saved for college, the government deemed my EFC to be 13000+ every year, essentially barring me from any grants once I went to college at 18.

And you are correct, those that don't work are the ones that end up getting all the grants. It seems as if the government rewards those that don't work while punishing those that do. Even now after having graduated and being established in my career for nearly two years now, it pains me to think how some of my money is being taken out of my check to pay for the grants of more non-working students and families.

In any case, the best way for you in terms of help are subsidized loans. Even if you have high income, you should still qualify for those non-interest bearing loans and you don't have to pay them back until 6 months after you graduate. Even banks have private student loans that are also a good choice. Good luck with your schooling.

FAFSA goes by last year's figures. If your father worked a full time job last year earning good money, it was the cause of your problems. Also, your earnings and savings count at a higher rate than your family's (parents') total income and savings. Did you update the school's financial aid office on your father being out of work and brought documentation? An idea is to apply for a student loan for the spring semester if the figures do not change and search for scholarships for the fall 2008 semester/quarter. I will include some free links for more information. Good luck!

Have you requested them? Most for-benefit flight colleges do. Please pause and skim this It issues your long term as a civilian-educated industrial airline pilot. This is what your long term holds in retailer: For-benefit colleges reminiscent of ERAU and others don't get you a greater nice of flight schooling, can not assurance you a role and they're probably the most steeply-priced. Last week an ERAU grad requested the best way to get into the army flight colleges on the grounds that after sending out programs and having interviews he found out that no longer handiest was once he nonetheless unemployed, however worse, he was once " unemployable". Airlines weren't handiest unimpressed along with his ERAU coaching, however honestly scornful of it. Another glimpse into your long term: ” I would possibly now be unemployed, 33, dwelling with my mum, entirely broke, unmarried and not able to get paintings of any variety ... even McDonalds do not desire pilots, however I am one of the vital fortunate ones. One of my peers certainly not observed pilot employment and his spouse simply left him on the grounds that he continues chasing his dream, plowing any cash he has into it. He had two younger children together with her. I recognise a tender girl who educated and having no longer observed a role in three years and closely indebted, is seriously depressed. But instead than search aid on the grounds that she is afraid taking anti-depressants will invalidate her scientific (which in all honesty does not get used besides) she sits round reducing herself and eliminating her hair strand through strand in case an airline would name." Kinda bleak, is not it? Try this on for measurement: .
