A shelter is not a boarding facility. If you want your animal back, you will have to find a pet sitter or a boarding facility, not a shelter. At a shelter you are signing your dog over and it is quite possible it will end up getting euthanized. Is that what you want?

Are you going away for 4 months? An animal shelter isn't meant as a boarding facility, it is a place where homeless animals stay until they get adopted into a new home. If you are going away and need to find a place for your dog to stay you will want to look into boarding facilities. Is there any chance that your dog could stay with a friend or family member instead? That is such a long time for a dog to be away from his owner, it would be easier on him if he was in a home setting. If you can't find anyone to take care of him you will want to look into boarding facilities and kennels. Ask your veterinarian if they can recommend one.

Do NOT take your dog to a shelter unless you want to see him destroyed.

What you want, is to find a dog boarding facility in the phone book. There may be several. Visit a few, to see they are clean and have decent facilities for your dog.See if they have veterinary services available in case your dog gets sick. Plan on spending some serious money for this service.

Your pet is like your child. You want the best for them. If you do not have, or will not spend the money to provide for decent boarding while you are away, then give your dog to a nice family with a good home and a fenced yard or acreage.

Shelters are for abandoned and unwanted animals....I'd look for a boarding kennel, and look carefully because some are really bad places. You can also ask your vet where a good place is, some vets board animals too. why do you want to kennel your dog for that long? Maybe you could see if you can find a family in your area to care for it , or a friend might be willing to help out.

hi, Why don't you rethink what your planning on doing. 4 months away from you and not having a lot of human contact will not be good for your baby. Can't you find a family member to take care of him or her? You know after that long your not gonna get the Same dog back.. as far as attitude, the dog will have to re-adjust to you.. Maybe find him/her a new home until you are able to take care of a dog.. ?

Shelters don't take animals in on a temporary basis; check with your local vets and boarding facilities. Alternatively, you could try to find someone to "foster" your dog for the period of time you need care for him. I've seen many posts of this nature on my local Craig's List; you might want to start there.

Unless the shelter has a boarding facility I don't think they do that.

If they do you'll have to pay boarding charges for the time your dog is there.

It is better to have someone petsit for your dog and leave your dog in your own home not in a shelter for that long!
