I'm just wondering here. There's Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Grandparent's Day. Well, what about those who have chosen not to propagate the species? Why is there such a social stigma on people who choose not to have children?

Go have a baby? Sorry, but the world is already overpopulated. Guess that's something to be proud of.

Deathklok, who said we had to give presents? I just know that I for one am so sick and tired of people telling me that I should be an incubator because I'm a woman. Just a little respect for my decision would be nice, instead of always treating people who choose to be childfree that they're delusional.

I VERY much agree with you. I am very tired of parents assuming their time is far more valuable than mine is simply because they have children.
Having children is a NOT a huge miracle, all it means is that you had sex and happened to get knocked up.
Parenthood is the opiate of the masses.

I never understood why for most people the greatest thing we could ever accomplish is having children. I don't see how a holiday for those who abstain from it would work though. I don't need to have to say "Sorry I forgot to get you a present." twice a year on my friends' birthdays and this new one.
-Well said. I wouldn't be against the holiday, I would just be at a loss of words for what to say to someone on that day. The choice of not having kids should be respected and not looked at so negatively though. It sometimes worries me that all the idiots are multiplying like crazy while the smarter people have a reasonable 2-3 kids or less if any at all. We're greatly outnumbered!

It's the old free rider problem again. Sure, everyone benefits from your decision not to contribute to overpopulation, but since there's nobody to buy you cards and flowers, there will be no commercial support for the idea. Where would Mother's Day be without Hallmark?

But who would give them presents....I do agree with the idea though. Actually I would prefer no holidays of that kind because people are left out through no choice of their own if they have no parents, grandparents or children

Sure. I'd gladly celebrate it, because I've decided against procreation myself. I will never have children. My girlfriend (who will eventually be my wife) and I have been together for years, and we're both equally strong in our desire to not have children. To us, there are so many compelling reasons to remain childfree. And in the extremely unlikely event that we ever wanted children, there are so many children who are already here who desperately need to be adopted, especially the older ones.

You might be on to something there. Sounds like a good idea to me. We are programed to have children so those who chose to not have children do not fit the mold and people wonder what is wrong. I think it is great and admire women who chose to not have children, there are more then enough of us on earth as it is.

mother's day and father's day are simply a day for you to honour the people who raised you and show them that you appreciate what they've done for you. it is a celebration of the hard work and sacrifices parents make for their children. there is nothing wrong with people who decide not to have children, but there is not really a point in creating a holiday just to celebrate a person's individual choice that has no effect on anybody else.

Yes, the world is overpopulated, people who consciously try to limit overpopulation should be commended
Those who have genetic disorders should be praised if they choose not ot pass them along to the next generation deferring to others who have better genes
