not if the mind in question was pretty lame to start with. Case in point: George W. Bush. Today he said "Childrens are..." in reference to some high achieving academic performance by a school.. Notice the use of the letter "s" in the word "children" when the word children is already a plural noun and does not require an "s."

Folks, I heard it myself. Sigh. Hail to the Chief.

I learned about "logic vs rhetoric" in university.

Some contemporary rhetoric is not logical. Often the argument is not even true.

The argument of "weapons of mass distruction", to justify attacking Iraq, might fit this category ... WRONG because the facts are wrong.

Other arguments have some truth mixed in; but are fallacious EVEN if (true) or not "Valid" as us logic experts call it.

Ads are notorius for this. The statement is true, but is NOT a valid reason to buy the product.

It may be true that the smiling used car salesman has "low prices", but those cars are not even worth that!

You need to know this stuff to votes wisely in the election, so listen up.

A "valid" agrument is an argument whose premises (like "sports have definite known rules") if "true " (or sufficient), form grounds for accepting a conclusion. and therefore, all other arguments are "invalid".

Controversial Example: "Popes are always right" (1st premise) + He is the pope (2nd premise) = He is right on every occasion when he speaks. I guess the logic depends on analysing the "equasion".

When I was a Roman Catholic I believed the example above was logical; but now I'm a protestant (PROTESTant) who doubts that first premise, so I declare the whole argument "invalid"!

Remember the first premise? "Popes are infallible"! If RC parissioners really believe that, why are they having just 1.5 children, not 6 or 12 as they did before the forbidden PILL was invented!!!

Only God is all knowing. The pope is not God. So I don't accept this pope's word as gospel!

Some people think it is safe to be a fence sitter, neither on one side or the other. If they drive that way down the highway, partly in each lane (not sure which lane to be in) they double their chance of an accident...in fact they guarantee it will happen!

The Bible says "Why halt you between two opinions". But chose wisesly grasshopper!

A classic overly simple example: in a false argument you would correctly prove that a chicken is "a two legged animal". YES it is!

Fine so far, but then go on a step too far; and wrongly conclude that "a two legged animal is a chicken". NO. Not necessarily!!! Think about it!

In fact reversing the statement makes it NOT true!!! But people make that sort of simple logical error all the time!

A lawyer says, "That's not enough evidence to find no reasonable doubt", although the evidence (what little there might be of it) is undisputed. We need to ask, even if true, it it convincing overall.

An atheist on Yahoo said there is no God and we evolved because we have a useless appendix. Well, who can tell if science won;t discover it's value tomorrow.

But even IFF TRUE (and there's no proof of purposes not existing) that "unexplained" appendix is laughably short of provng that nothing turned into everything by evolution without our Creator GOD!

We need to ask ourselves, "Is that the ONLY conclusion?" Think about it.

Yes, use the brain God gave you. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
