Nothing is 100%
I work in an abortion clinic and see women that are pregnant, even though they are sterilized.
I see the same thing with regard to vasectomy.
When people tell you nothing is 100%, they really mean it.
Vasectomies fail more often than tubal ligations, mainly because there are so many millions of sperm, but only one egg in the woman.
IF even ONE sperm somehow makes it through, you can get a girl pregnant.
What would be a HUGE help is to have yearly sperm counts tested, just in case :)

If he went back and had his semen tested for sperm, the chances are very small. Many men never do this and the vasectomy is actually incomplete. Tested with none present, however, roughly 1 in 1000 vasectomies fail and it is because the tubes grow together around the cut. I know a couple where the vasectomy failed 11 years after being done. If this happens to you, I recommend always having the guy tested rather than waiting for a DNA test. Saves a lot of heartache.

no i've nver had a vasectomy b/c i kinda have the wrong parts for it, but i'll tell you it is unbelievably rare. people who get it reversed to have a child only have a slim, slim chance of ever producing a child. So I will grant that it is probably much less than 3%. It is much more common for a woman to get pregnant after getting her tubes tied than for a man to get a woman pregnant after getting a vasectomy. But be aware that there are different vasectomy procedures. In many procedures they completely detroy the line of travel for teh semon and so that is why in the medical field it is considered a permanent procedure.

My brother had a vasectomy in 1981 after having 2 children in the first 2 years of marriage. 17 years later his wife again was pregnant and they now have a 9 year old son who is a blessing from God. Apparently a vasectomy isn't always 100% effective.

Very unlikely. It is something like .05% if he had a traditional vasectomy (the kind they have been doing for about 100 years). If he had one of the newer vasectomies, then the chances are much higher. Sorry I could not find a reference on the newer vasectomy techniques.

It's not unheard of. However he should go have a test done to see if his tubes grew back together. If his procedure is still disconnected, tell the girl that it isn't his. Unless of course he didn't use protection for the first 30 days following his surgery. My late hubby had a vasectomy, you're instructed to ejaculate as often as possible to rid your body of existing bullets, so to speak. Then you take a sample with you to your followup to be certain your firing blanks. If he had unprotected intercourse within that 30 time period, "Congrats Dad."
Either way, I would see a doc to at least be certain of where he stands with the prior surgery.

It is definately a possibility. Even several years after the snip. Before he says anything he can regret and possibly even destroy his relationship he needs to go get a sperm count done. It can always grow back. I have a coworker who had this happen. He got snipped after his daughter was born and 7 years later his wife came up pregnant. He came into the store and started a shouting match in front of everyone before he even had himself checked.
Sure enough he had active swimmers again and the DNA test a few months later confirmed it was his son. Even now 4 years later their relationship has been rocky.
The odds are so very small of it growing back but it is still possibly.

It is very possible to still be able to get someone pregnant after having a vasectomy. Nothing is 100% effective.

Certainly. Many gents will have additional ducts. No one knows about it till something like this will occur. In fact in my life i was involved and a second time i had to get the vasectomy done.
Its better to get him checked first to ensure whether he has dual ducts. Then douts can be known and any chances
