Seems odd to me since hes married and has a family. Also if i move down to teh city close to hsi tech in another state how do they change the bah allowance? or do they? thanks all.

My husband is in the air force and we went to basic in texas...And we are from oklahoma so we just paid for our own move to texas because they wont pay for that...But I got BAH and he had to live in the dorms and I lived off base in an apt. about 5 blocks from tech school and after 2nd phase he got to move off base with me and our son. So no they dont cut it in half and after phase 2 you can move off base and live with your family!!! Hope that helps

If an Airman is married or has a dependant (kid for example) the Airman is entittled to recieve full BAH for the base where they are stationed. The BAH is only based off where THEY are stationed and not where their dependants are. In tech school they keep most students in the dorms because it removes tons of problems they've had in the past (underage drinking parties off base for example) but they still get BAH if the proper paper work is completed.

You will be getting FULL BAH for where you are living... and when you move he will have to go to finance and change all the information on you and your child(ren).. You wont get the BAH for the new area until He gets everything switched... It usually takes 2 weeks for them to get it into the system and get you paid... I moved to Washington from Missouri, where my hubby was located.. I got here on May 29th 2006... My husband changed our info and we didn't get the correct BAH until June 15th 2006... Our June 1st paycheck still had our old BAH on it from Missouri... good luck to you... I hope this answer helped...

I don't know if Army is different than AF, but my husband is about to graduate AIT (his job training), and we've been getting BAH for the city that we're from/live in. He trains in VA, but we get the BAH for my part of Ohio.

I moved to VA (about 1/2 mile away from the post he's training in) and he asked his Drills if he should change it, and they told him not to for some reason. They told him that it wouldn't be worth it for whatever reason. We should've though, it's 200 more per month here than it is in Ohio.

if his orders to tech school are Unaccompanied, he will receive BAH based on YOUR zip code and he will reside in the barracks at no cost. If they are Accompanied, and you choose to not join him there, it will be based on HIS zip code AND he will not be eligible to live in the barracks, nor can he live in MFH without you, so you would be effectively maintaining 2 households on One BAH.

Also, keep in mind that if the orders are Unaccompanied, the AF will NOT pay to move you to that location, and in fact will only pay to move you to his permanent Duty Station from where your were originally living when he enlisted.

Say you live in CA and his Tech School is in Maryland. you move to MD, on your own dime. But he gets orders to New Mexico. They will only cover what it would have cost to move you and your stuff from CA to NM, not from MD to NM.
