from a biblical point of view, its basically the same thing...
Exodus 4:11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ?

If a person is ONLY allowed to see certain options by a god, is it their choice?

Essentially, a 'spiritual path' starts with a person's FIRST step. The path defines itself with each and every experience or SIGHT along the path.

Hheheee one of my favorites is when you 'go back' and see something NEW and wonder 'why didn't I see that when I was here before?" The 'easy' answer is that you didn't NEED it at that time, but the moment has changed as what we NEED.

Sometimes though in 'spiritual' or 'religious' arenas, a path is 'forced' upon a person by another person or group. In many of the monotheistic sects, they have perpetuate a We verses THEM mentality. Most humans feel a need to 'belong' or become a part of something, so they accept the requirements of that collective.

Though in a WE verses THEM mentality the concept of a collective is smaller in comparison to a 'ALL are ONE' collective. Though that question basically comes down to 'how big of a pond ya what to swim in'.

Also within many of such We v. Them sects, they have the need to demean others so they can posses a SELF righteousness or superiority over others. Often times such groups LIMIT the experiences a person will have or even the god concept to their preformed defintions.

Personally, I am of the opinion all a person really needs to do is OPEN THEIR EYES and just take a look around themselves. Everything a person really needs is always present....heheheee though not always the way we want it.

It depends on where You are right now. It's too obvious to say Your own path is the only one right for You. A three-year-old needs structure in her life, a schedule, regular meals, predictable adults. So does a thirteen-year-old, though she might scream in protest if You told her so.

But eventually You make Your own way. At first it seems like You "leave home" out of anger, and later You realize it's just what everyone does.

Sickblade, a MAP? A ticket would cost more, but it might be more useful for crossing the Atlantic.

ANY path you find yourself on in life is your spiritual path. We make a lot of choices in life, but our lessons are pre-determined. And like any shopping center USA, you are going to see a Wal-greens and a 7/11 on every other corner which sells the same merchandise.

Peace.

Following the path laid out for me by those I love and trust which is later confirmed by my own conclusion that this is the right path for me.

Have a blessed day.

You must find your own path, because if you're just following the one laid before you, then you don't even truly know why you follow it. If you follow your own, then you've done the research as to why you're there in the first place.

The only way to really know yourself is to find your own way. Following the path that others have made for you will do nothing but teach you how to follow others instead of thinking for yourself.

It depends on your purpose. Say I wanted to sail from New York to England. Should I find my own path there, or shall I draw upon the experiences and discoveries of people before me and use a map?

Well, assuming that a person hasn't been conditioned to since birth to just accept whatever was put in front of them,.....

I think it is best when we continuously seek out what is true for us spiritually and as long as we do this, i think we eventually end up on the path that is meant for us to follow...

Blessed Be

I know, having had it both ways, that for me finding my own spiritual path is much better. By that I mean it's more fulfilling, deep, and rewarding and that I've grown a lot more since following my own path.

Finding your own... Would that not be more respected? Choosing what you believe and having honest thought out reason why you believe it? Not just following the crowed with some bought set of directions because you hope to get something out of it...
