Here's the thing. I'll start out by saying that I don't like to get sick. I can't stand it. If I can, I try to avoid people who are sick. I figure...why put yourself around someone who is sick if you don't have to? This is a little difficult with my College roommate. He's a great guy, and we get along well, so this is why I am asking this question here.

You see..my roommate loves to touch his face, his mouth, his eyes, his nose...and we all know that this is the easiest way to transmit germs. He seriously has been sick twice in less than a month, and I am convinced that he got sick by touching his face. And, also, he has this annoying habit where he'll take one of his fingers and rub it back and forth under his nose, therefore making a weird and EXTREMELY annoying mucus noise.

I want to somehow tell him a) that this noise is bothering me and b) he shouldn't touch his face as much, and he won't get sick as much. I know I am not his mother, but this is driving me crazy...

... and I wonder what quirks of yours are driving HIM crazy. It's a safe assumption something is. College dorms, even tho they apparently are a LOT bigger then the ones I had, are too small. They would be too small if they were football field sized.

Let there be spaces in your togetherness; try shifting your favorite sitting position so you are not looking at him. Consider studying at the library at times. You'll probably not be so annoyed when you ARE in the same room, if you make sure you have some alternatives.

Ensure the room has a box of tissues; to heck with the expense, the minimal cost will be so worth it, it's like a gift to yourself.

If you seriously obcess over others' hygiene... talk to a Resident Advisor about whether a solo room could be possible, and consider talking with a therapist; I hear Adrian Monk has a good one...

I know, it really is frustrating - but you need to relax a bit about this or you too will start making weird annoying uncontrollable sounds o.O as you drive yourself crazy.

Oh - and have you seen the Chris Crocker video? :) Does that put things in perspective or what??

Wow.....what a germaphob. Why not live in a bubble. Very few people go long periods of time without touching their face, etc. I wear glasses, so I'm constantly pushing them up and re-adjusting them. So, I tend to touch my face a lot. I'm hardly ever sick, b/c I wash my hands often.

I sense that you just have a problem with germs. If it was not this roommate, then next might not wipe his shoes before coming into the room, etc.

Get a grip. If you wash your hands and take good care of yourself......you will not get sick.

You have more germs on your keyboard then you do on your face.

You should just bring it up causually. Just say "dude that nose thing you do is seriously gross", or find some 'amazing statistic' on the internet and say something like "wow it says here that people who are constantly touching their face are twice as likely to get sick as others". Whatever you do don't let it get bottled up inside of you and explode on him. Ultimatly though you are going to have to realize that being in a small space where you can't always get exactly what you want is part of college life.

I'd say the next time he does the nose touching thing, slap him in the back of the head and scream "STOP IT!" But really, it's probably more of a habit that he won't be able to break. I'd suggest getting some Lysol, disinfecting wipes, hand cleaner, etc. and just sanitizing the room as much and as often as you can.

Can't be any worse than my last roommate who had to pull down his pants and underwear to fart. He didn't want to clean up the skid mark!

Just talk to him. Realize that he probably won't change and be prepared to find out what annoys him about you.

WOW! Just tell him to knock it off its annoying and gross! He doesnt take you into consideration when he's rubbing his face and spreading his germs. So dont take him into consideration when it comes to telling him to stop it. I had this friend who constantly picked her nose. anywhere, anytime. it drove me nuts. till one day we were on our way to the mall and started doing it again and i just snapped! I pulled over, looked at her, and yelled "YOUR F'ING NASTY! HAVE YOU NO MANNERS?! IF YOU PICK YOUR NOSE AROUND ME ONE MORE TIME IM GONNA BREAK ALL YOUR FINGERS!" needless to say....she stopped. HHMM.....maybe this wasnt the best advice! well....say something to him before you do what i did! goodluck <3

what you have to do is somehow get some fresh raw chilli juice onto his hands without him knowing if you can find a way to do this you will have the pleasure of seeing him scream like a girl when he starts touching his face.

Next time he gets sick, offer a few pointers. Hand sanitizer, hand-washing, zinc, tissues, NO FACE TOUCHING. It's not a cure-all, but it could very well help him stay healthy.

He's, for one, a guy. So, he probably couldn't care any less about germs or his nose. But you can always try, I guess. Haha, you could always hit on him, and have him apply for a new roommate. =]

So just tell him, otherwise try to get a different roommate.
