Who was the woman whose voice was used for auto-responses like "the line is busy"? Wasn't she an actress?

no, as far as I remember, it was a little old lady, but she had a really sweat voice....! I had seen it once on TV...

Damn, I heard this on the radio not long ago. It was a lady they hired back in the 70s. She spent several days in the recording studio recording all sorts of phrases, words and numbers. She didn't work for the phone company. I believe she was an actress.

She said she is still recognized by people when they hear her speak. They'll turn to her and ask her "Don't I know you?"
