Typically jobs that are of minimum wage or just above. If you are planning to get an associate's degree anyway, it may be something to pursue (typically referred to as 'human services' program) if even to save one the time and expense to get a bachelor's (most social workers need their master's, MSW) degree in social work if finding out that one doesn't want to remain in the mental health field. There mostly likely a fieldwork component which provides hands-on experience in the job field. Social/Human Service Assistant is listed in the US occupational outlook handbook: www.bls.gov/oco/ocos059.htm
Other job names include psychiatric aide, activities aide, residential aide/technician (though typically in a group home and can be even more dangerous and draining than hospital or nursing home setting). Some of those positions, however, do require at least a bachelor's degree. Perhaps you can do some volunteer work, talk with others in that field (when they have time availability ;) and see if perhaps it's your cup o' tea.

Mary B is correct - most of the other posts are inaccurate. Most CC offer an associate in human service studies and may offer a course on "intro to social work". Also many CC's will offer course work which will transfer to a 4 year program in social work (be sure the social work program is accredited by CSWE). Now you may be confusing an associate social worker which some states have as a position within their DSS dept. This is a non-BA level position. DA

nicely, the AA/AS stages do qualify you for extra stronger clerical and administrative positions, consisting of those presented at a school. maximum complete-time college positions incorporate complete reward, consisting of loose or low-fee training. in case you're extreme approximately instruction and/or wellness careers (yep, they are in a position to be blended), then attempt to get a place with a school so as that they are going to pay for here couple of years of your education. verify to have actual copies of your transcripts, of the path syllabi (in case credit pass themes upward thrust up), and innovations from school and such out of your college. examine the Human supplies departments at faculties which interest you, and make certain you be attentive to the thank you to pass approximately using (some are incredibly bearish, whilst others are a satisfaction). yet actual, i don't see a lot of something in the two container that facilitates somebody with an buddies to progression or do very a lot of interest, much less some thing on the subject count of the fields themselves. solid success!

Probably not much other than clerical, in the social work field - you'd need at least a batchelors degree and probably a masters for a professional position.
Good luck.

There is no such thing as an Associate's Degree in Social Work.
You have probably seen a program that is meant to transfer to a regular University for a Bachelor program.
