I have 2006 Dodge truck 4WD with 3.91 posi, 34K miles. Whenever I make a hard left or hard right from stopped position, it feels like the rear end is grinding/vibrating. I'm not talking about the inside wheel hop. I'm just easing in to it. Do I need to worry about that or is it typical?

this is normal at 34000 miles on a limited slip if you have not changed your fluid. the clutches have to have a friction modifier additive to break away correctly to go around corners, and the addititve breaks down. this is what causes the clutches to chatter and hop when you turn. these differentials have to be serviced every 15000 miles. it costs about $65 at your dealer. if you do it yourself use 75w90 synthetic or 75w140 synthetic, and you need a friction modifier additive.

Okay, checking it out is a good start. Let me let you in on something though. If your truck is a true posi and not just limited slip, you can't get away from this. You see, during turning with a normal rear end, the wheels turn at different speeds. With posi, both wheels turn at the same speed which causes your hopping. The grinding you are hearing is the pinion gear, it has force applied in lateral and horizontal directions instead of just horizontal. This causes your vibration. I still would get it checked, but it probably is nothing more than what I just explained.

dodge rear ends work with a clutch style differentail what you are feeling is the friction plates chattering. I have had this happen also before. Took the truck to the dealer had it checked all was ok, but after they serviced it the vibe was gone. Probly cause they changed the fluid and and added the friction modifier.

Dana Trac-Lok is standard equipment for the Sure-Grip differentials in Dodge trucks. You can buy a new Trac-Lok equipped carrier and put your gears in it or buy a center section or complete differential from a salvage yard. There is a nearly infinite number of locking or limited slip differentials available.

That doesn't sound normal as Dodge man stated I would take it to the dealer before your 3 yr 36,000 mile waurrenty expires.

if your feeling a vibration from it that's not normal, take it in and have the dealer check it,its till under warranty,i have heard them sort of grind before but never felt any vibration coming from any of them, have it checked, because it is covered, that doesn't sound like anything typical to me,good luck.
