At my daughter's check up the dr said that he would like to see her gain more weight. She's in the 25-50th percentile for weight. She's never been down in that percentile. Anyway, he said I should feed her high calorie, healthy food. What do you recommend? Anyone else have the same experience? I'm feeding her three meals and two snacks a day, along with whole milk. I won't feed her junk food.

Try avacado's...they're high in the very good fats. Also, I once heard that bananas can cause you to gain weight. What about cheese but not to much cause it can be constipating. Full fat yogurts & cottage cheese. You could mix some ground flax seed into her food. Also, what about trying an Omega-3 fish oil supplement that's for her age. That's what I give my son & I mix it into his oatmeal so he doesn't know. Soy nut butter on whole weight crackers or whole grain toast. Also, I give my son tiny pieces of chopped almonds..that might be something to try, just introduce slowly & watch for allergies. Good luck!

my grandson has never even been on the chart! He will turn 5 in October and now weighs about 28 pounds- it flucuates between 27 and 29. His endocrinologist told us to give him a good quality, high fat ice cream twice a day- that was actually his prescription! Also, things like cheese and other full fat dairy products. That was back when he had just turned 2 and was 18 pounds. The Dr. said that as lng as he gained about 3 pounds a year, he was ok- and he has (10 pounds in 3 yrs! whoopee!) I honestly wouldn't worry too much if she's in the 25th-50th %- I'd LOVE that for my grandson! There's nothing wrong with a petite girl!

Adding olive oil to any food is a healthy way to add extra calories. They need plenty of fat for brain develpment, so it helps in that area as well. Artichokes are high in fat and calories and also very healthy.

Avocado, flax seed meal to baked goods, flax seed oil to yogurt and applesauce.
ETA: sunbutter made from sun flower seeds would be a healthful alternative to peanut butter, which isn't recommended until around 3 now.

add more protien, eggs are a great source for little kids. Will she drink pediasure? Thats a great calorie source, and kids usually love it.
