I've only worked there for a month, and I've had a part-time job the whole time, so there isn't any empty time on my resume. I suspect I am going to be fired. I am debating whether I should quit before I get fired. I have been planning on quiting, I have many applications out and I have some interviews scheduled, so it isn't a huge deal if I quit, but I would like to wait until I have another job lined up.

My question is: if I get fired, will it come back to haunt me later? When I am filling out applications will I have to check the box stating that yes, I was discharged from a job?

On a lot of the job applications I have filled out lately there has been a questions "Have you ever been discharged from a job?"

If I am fired, won't I have to answer "yes" to this question?

i would not mention getting fired from a job at all if it was a short term job. but the job was for a long period of time you would handle it by saying you left by mutual decision due to a personality conflict, and leave it at that.

If I were you, I'd try to do my best at work. Modify whatever behavior you suspect would lead to a discharge. Apologize to your boss if you've made a mistake and try to clear up misunderstandings. Wait until you get an official job offer before quitting. It's possible that you may not be fired, and an interview is not a guarantee of a job offer.

If you do get fired, you don't have to mention it on your application. If you only worked with a company for one month, you could simply leave that job right off the application. For jobs of longer duration, you could say that you were seeking a career change.

go ahead and quit. don't list the job on any applications. there's no secret place employers go to find out where you've worked, they only know what you tell them. sure it's a lie by omission, but i won't tell if you don't.

No, even if contacted, it's illegal for them to say that you were fired. All they are allowed to give is dates of employment and position. I wouldn't worry about it, and if you get fired, you can get unemployment if you need it.
