Philip Badowski breaks chainsaw while cutting up the bodies of his Christian Missionary Parents

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Dec 11, 2004 — A college student who admitted he fatally shot his parents in their bedroom and broke a chain saw cutting up their bodies told investigators: "GOD told me to."

He said the killings were "spur of the moment" after his parents scolded him when they returned from a weeklong missionary trip to Haiti.

Literalist morons exist everywhere, huh? Read the Greek -- it is a comparative term, meant to emphasize how much MORE a person must love God than his or her family. If nobody bothers to teach what the Bible really means, this is what will happen. This is why just reading a verse or two, especially out of context, is not enough.
What kind of killing with that degree of gore is really "spur of the moment"? Bull! (Not directed toward you, but him.)

This is a perfect example of a misunderstanding of the scriptures. The bible did not say that one must HATE his parents or anyone else for that matter.........the point that is being made is this: that though family is dear to us, if we truly want to be followers of Christ, we have to love him more than things or people.

Many Jw's have had to choose between God or family. What I mean is, a lot of our friends and families have tried to convince us that this is not the truth.....but our hearts compelled us to do what was right....to follow God's direction and walk as Jesus did. We don't have to give up or throw away or families and friends, but we must make GOD priortiy one!

You don't understand what this verse is saying. In those days some things didn't mean, what you think they mean.

The meaning of this verse is saying>>>>
"If any man come to Me, and THINK LESS OF his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he can not be My disciple.

God is love, and God has nothing to do with hate. God has said, love every one with out exception, even your enemies.

Goodness, I'm not sure if you're serious, but I will comment just in case.
Luke 14:26 - Jesus is speaking in regards to commitment to Him and having Him first in your life; even above your love for your parents, brother, etc.
It is just speaking on putting Him (Jesus) ahead of all others.

People that kill their parents and use this verse as the reason are obviously lost, possessed or insane. May God forgive them.

If you do your research and do not take it out of context like you have, you find that the passage means the man is to put God first and his family second. Those news stories are not what that verse is about.

That is terrible news, about the chainsaw murder. Any murder is terrible news.
I think that Christ meant that he is guidance to those who despise innocent people. Christ also said, "I have not come to save the righteous, but to save the sinners." Jesus Christ is one way to know the Kingdom of God, but I think that there are other righteous religions as well.

Taking things out of context is a bad thing. Think about some of the stuff you have said in your life. Take it out of context and you could be in big trouble.

Even his life. That means that the Lord is over everything. Even your own life. If you love the Lord more than everything then you can do anything else.
Parallax,
God has not killed anybody. If many people died that is another thing. But God does not have anything to do with that.

For those who argue that this verse means yo uhave to love the Lord more, come on. IT doesnt say

If any man come to me, and love his father, and mother....and his own life more than me, he cannot be my disciple.

Its to different things, love and hate. Either Jesus was lying when he said yo uhave to hate them, or you are lying when you say that he meant love more. Which is it?
