I am 42 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 3 mo. ago and it sucks! Now they want me to seek counseling for the chronic pain. Sometimes it is just to much to handle. I believe I'm driving my fam. crazy.
My (lazy) cousin says to stay home and get on SSD but I need to work if anything it helps keep my mind occupied.
The Dr.'s give you pill after pill and then say exerise but it hurts like hell to even think about getting up. I try to walk as much as as I can until I feel like my legs will crumble.

HELP!

Is the counseling called COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY.(CBT) worthless unless you are treated with the right meds
And did the doctor give you a specific exercise program. or just tell you to get more exercise.

If the doctor is sending you for CBT and just told you to get more exercise. The doctor has no idea how to treat fibro.
there is only one special exercise program for people with fibro.
All others will bring on fibro flairs.
Any doctor that has you doing a exercise program without getting the pain under control has no idea how to treat fibro.

What type of pills are they giving you antidepressants only works in less then 25% of cases.

Have they tried Neurontin , Lyrica, Mirapex. or Requip.
If they have not then the doctor has no idea how to treat fibro.

if You have not tried Lyrica and the doctor will not give it to you the doctor is in malpractice as Lyrica is the ONLY FDA approved drug for the treatment of fibro.

and must be given to any one with fibro that ask for it.
unless it would cause other health problems.

all the above is a not so wild guess based on the practices of most HMOs in the US

I am 32 and I too was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in March 2003. I spent 3 more years trying to hang onto a job I was no longer able to work. I haven't worked since January. I was fired for missing too much work. I am hardly able to do anything these days. My Dr told me to walk but I feel so bad I can't hardly do it most days. I signed up on SSD today and I am in no way lazy. I have never been lazy. I am just not able to go anymore. I commend you for trying to go back to work but don't pretend that you can if you can't like I did. It doesn't do any good to lie to yourself. Good luck.

I know the feeling but I suggest that you do what your doctor said and seek the pain management counseling. Also there are some support groups on Yahoo that are geared to those who have fibromyalgia.

I don't have what you have but I have another health condition called Lymphedema and it is very painful as well.

SSD maybe a blessing in disguise.
