Should be fine; I'm barefoot year-round and I'm much healthier than I used to be when I still wore shoes. Used to be sickly all winter, and also a chilly-willy, felt cold as soon as I stepped outside. But going barefoot I've only called in sick once in the past ten years, even a minor cough is rare, and I don't often feel cold either. It's not gross or dangerous; our skin is made to keep pathogens out, and feet are very tough if you regularly go barefoot, as you and your kids do. Parasites aren't as big a problem as a previous poster feared; very few parasites can enter through the skin, some in third-world countries but in the US there was really just the hookworm to worry about. It's been pretty much eradicated from the South since modern plumbing has replaced the outhouses and never was much of a problem in cooler climates. See source. Most parasites spread through ingestion only; don't let them put their feet on the dinner table and don't let them stick their toes in their mouth (I seem to remember they're a bit past the age to do that anyhow :)) and they'll be fine.

Congratulations to you! Letting your kids enjoy the freedom of going barefoot in all kinds of places. I didn't go barefoot as much as a kid, which is why I probably go barefoot so much now. We let our kids go barefoot whenever they wanted, and basically wherever they wanted. They weren't attacked by shards of glass, or shocked by a game machine. They grew up happy barefoot kids!
I still go barefoot year round here, unless weather dictates some type of covering. I'm not a fan of the cold, so I will put something on when needed.
Keep 'em BARE!

that's a great way to get parasites! I don't care what the weather is, my kids- and now my grandkids- wear footwear at all times, unless they are going in the pool or are indoors. Good lord, they are walking where dogs may have peed or worse, where people may have spit, where some drunk or a kid puked, where an animal may have been run over... give me a break! Is it really so difficult to have them put on some flip flops or sandals?

Well I wouldt take them to the arcade barefoot, and have them play the arcade machines barefoot. IF their feet are wet they could get a shock

DISGUSTING! No telling what you are really walking in. Think about this and then you bring it in your HOME. It's called beach shoes.
