Not far about 3.78 liters to a gallon so figure 5.3 miles to liter. So you syphon a little petrol out of each car you park next to and you might make it back home?

Well a liter is just a shade over a quart, so since you're getting 20 mpg that would translate to 5 miles to the quart, so in metric terms maybe 5.2 or 5.3 miles to the liter.
