That's normal but not necessarily good. Cats were designed to get moisture IN their food. They were originally desert animals who couldn't rely on handy lakes and streams to drink from.
Because of that they have a low thirst drive and do not drink as much as they should. Cats eating dry food are typically dehydrated.
If you're feeding dry food, switch him to canned. It's much better for him, and dry food doesn't clean the teeth. it'll keep cats alive but that's about it.
If you feed canned, you'll know that your cat is properly hydrated. My two eat canned only and rarely drink from their water bowl. And you could even add extra water to it - up to one tablespoon. You could add more, but then it might be a little too mushy for their liking.

Cats and Kittens drink very little water, although fresh water must always be available to them.
If your kittens are eating a good quality moist kitten food they are getting most of their fluid requirements from their food.
I give my older cats dry food and wet food and they drink a little more water than a cat that would just have a diet of wet food.
I would only worry if the kitten started to drink a lot of water as that is an indication of kidney problems.
Don't worry if kitten is eating it is fine.
Best wishes to kitty

I have been a cat-owner (if you can call it "owning"...I feel like my cats have owned me) all of my life, and have found that cats will usually drink only FRESH water. I change my cat's water every day. Try that and see if it helps improve her water intake. If it doesn't, I would ask the vet.
Also, make sure your kitten has the opportunity to eat some fresh green grass every couple of days. They need it for good digestion. Some people I know actually grow grass in planters and keep the planters where the cats can get to them. You can pick grass blades outdoors and bring it in if you have an inside cat.
Give your baby kitten a kiss from me.

maybe your kitty doesnt like the taste of the water. i know i cant drink tap water as it tastes of chemicals. you could always try bottled water or kitten milk for a while until she's a bit older. my cat never used to touch a drop of water in the house but she used to go outside and drink from the pond even though the water was green with algae.

One of my cats doesn't drink water, well inside anyway. Have you tried milk?
If you are giving moist food then you will be surprised as to how much liquid is in them.
Also, are you actually watching your kitten 24 hours a day?
He may be having little sips when you are not looking, and it will be very hard for you to measure the amount he is having.

Kitty must drink water so he does not get dehydrated. Have you thought of trying one of those cat drinking fountains. My friend has one for her cat and finds it excellent. Her cat likes the cool, fresh, flowing water and drinks plenty. If you are in the UK you can find these in most pet stores or alternatively online at Seapets.

it should be fine. ive reared a couple of kittens and with each of them i put a drop in with there food. it also helps them while eating if the food is a little dry to moisten it up. i presume your kitten is old enough to be eating solid foods. dont give your kitten regular dry cat biscuits either you should get the kitten veriety.

Hi, not all cats/kittens like very cold water or cat milk mine doesn't,I have to warm the milk first.Try him/her with a drop of warm cat milk.(i.e Whiskers or Felix) and try keeping his water warm. Cat/kittens like to drink from running taps, try living your tap dripping abit on your bath.

A cat can taste chlorine, which tap water contains, and he/she doesn't like it. Our cats drink rainwater, so my advice would be to ensure that there is some available. Check with a vet as well regarding impurities in rainwater.

How old is he, and on what is he being fed? Is Mum still suckling? If he is on wet food, that contains a lot of water anyway, and he may not need more.
When he goes for his jab/operation, you can mention it to the vet. Meanwhile continue to give him access to a bowl of clean water.
