There are several populations located in the United States that demonstrate that a healthy lifestyle does directly impact life span. Seventh-Day Adventists are encouraged to be vegetarians, and many members of this faith-based community abstain completely from consuming meat. Longitudinal studies of these vegetarians revealed that men in this group lived 7.3 years longer than the national average and the women lived 4.4 years longer. Those who also exercised, avoided tobacco use, and maintained a healthy body weight lived 10 years longer than average. Mormons in the state of California who exercised regularly, did not smoke, and got adequate sleep had death rates due to cancer and cardiovascular disease that were 70–80% lower than the rest of the nation. Males in this population lived an average of 11 years longer than comparable U.S. males, and females lived 7 years longer. By avoiding tobacco use, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep, these Mormons demonstrated some of the lowest death rates ever published.10 There is no doubt that if they had a healthy diet and maintained a healthy weight, the extensions of life they experienced could have been even greater, but at this time, there is no good data to predict how long life could really be.

Actually, it appears that Adventists live a bit longer than Mormons. This article cites some more recent research. About 4 years longer on average. I am a Mormon and will admit it is likely due to our habit of eating large quantities of animal flesh. But to be fair, the Word of Wisdom counsels only killing animals in times of scarcity.

Do Mormons Live Longer

About ten to fifiteen years longer than the average person, but I can't tell you if Seventh Day Adventists live an above average, below average, or average lifespan. Probably the lowest lifespan is gay men which only runs about 47 years.

Unfortunately I don't have sources.

I will say this much. The President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) is 97 and 1/2 years old and still walking around waving his cane in the air instead of actually using it. That's pretty incredible. Can you image what it would be like to have been born in 1910???

There are lies, there are Damn Lies and there are Statistics.

Probably true but I dont have that information. it would have to do with ingestion of proteins. ie Meat

Adventists are usually vegans

While coffee has anti carcinogens it also has addictive properties like pepsin and caffine.

We believe in moderation in all things and abstaining from addictive substances.

Maybe so. Statistics show that those who don't eat meat aren't as healthy as those who do.

Mormons could be healthier, however, if they would drink coffee. It's been found to be extremely high in anti-carcinogens.

God bless!
