Buy a burris scope. They have a reticule etched in the glass that covers almost any round, and weight of bullet. You get a bunch of stickers, showing the reticle with a particular round. At the top is the cartridge and bullet weight.
Check out their Ballistic Plex Reticle.

Leupold does with their military line. You can get etched reticles that match the ballistics of a particular round. 168gn .308 muzzle velocity of 27?? fps. The click marks you need to figure out by zeroing at 100 yards and zeroing the scope dials. Then find out at each range what the new setting is and write it down. Make a little cheat sheet and once you know your range you can dial in the clicks. Call them and they can match to your cartridge or for less precision they have scopes matched to certain lines of scopes. Remember the BDC (ballistic drop compensator) is one item and you just need a good target style or tactical scope to do the second method.

Not sure about the movie the Shepard works but is high, mil dots are another option but i kind of think you talking about external windage and elevation knobs. they now make a lot of scopes with um.or you can add them on check out stoney point target knobs. In the movies you hear a range like 400 yards 4 clicks left. that means raise elevation for distance. 4 clicks left either for wind or speed of moving target.

Trijicon makes the "TA31DOC" 4x32 ACOG for the AR-15/M-16
So I'm sure someone, if not Trijicon would.
http://www.trijicon.com >it does not look like they have one for a .308
The Leatherwood ART is a possibility - I can't recall what all this scope was capable of - I do remember that at that time I thought it was one of the top 3 combat scopes in the world.

I don't think scopes are built for specific bore sizes, although ones for larger calibers have safer eye relief. You need to properly adjust your zeroing for a specific 'range' of distance, and I have never heard of a scope that zero's itself.

Scopes are not built for special bores of guns, that isnt possible.... Just get a good scope... I would recommend a 3X12 X 40mm or a 3X9 will work as well.... dont go smaller than a 40 mm....
