Blind faith is a dangerous thing and should be watched closely. But trusting in oneself, having faith in oneself, is something different... I'm sure many people have confidence and trust that they Know what they are doing (even if it is something they can't prove to another). It's when it's taken overboard that other people tend to turn completely from "faith" in general. I think it's over-used in many cases, like we see in here so many claiming that their faith is what saves them (first you have to have Faith in something before that something can do anything for you). It isn't rational to think that just because you believe in any God(s) that your belief alone will help you in any way.... it doesn't. You have to do for yourself, stand up for yourself... be a strong person FOR yourself... faith doesn't do that for you.

Depends on how you define it - my wife is away from home this month. In order not to drive myself to distraction with jealousy, I am taking it on faith that she is being faithful to me. Knowing her and trusting her, I find this an easy thing to do.

If 'faith' has a meaning something like 'trust', perhaps it's important. I also have a certain fait, over the long-term, in humanity's ability to improve itself, get better and weed out its destructive elements. Ill-founded? Maybe. Reassuring? Certainly.

But to base my morality and world-view around the concept of an entity whose existence I must accept as faith? Meaningless, counterproductive and foolish, in my humble opinion.

Faith is a desire
Like the promise of springtime
But hollow like winter

Faith is to believe in what cannot be seen;

Its opposite is called scientific thought. And it's not only better, but the only real way.

Faith is something I seem to lack the capacity for.

I know it exists, I see what it does for people - and the trouble it can cause - I just don't have it.

Blind faith in anything, without any kind of evidence to back up that faith, is not only silly ... but dangerous.

Faith = a crutch when you don't understand how the world really works.

Belief in something without any reason to. (I'm not a big fan of faith.)
