I would quit the Atkins diet immediately and switch to a regular diet.

The thing is that the Atkins diet, though it cuts out carbs, it increases cholesterol. The lack of carbs builds plaque up in your arteries, creating heart risks.

So, the Atkins diet DOES work to lose weight, but it is a danger to your health.

EDIT: The reason that Atkins died was from a heart attack. They are sure of this. Though it's unconfirmed if the heart attack was caused by the diet or not. I believe so, though.

I've been following Atkins for 2 1/2 years with no problems. I've lost 67 pounds so far.

Five years, eating the way Dr. Atkins recommended. I have no problems at all from the diet. I made it into my dietary lifestyle and not a meat/cheese/fat diet as many believe it to be. My diet is well balanced and healthier than most who believe that they eat healthily. Let me know if you would like some sincere help to succeed with a low carb lifestyle.Don't believe the hype.

Atkins was on it. He weighed 275 pounds when he died (from a fall), but he had advanced heart disease.
