They just pulled out my teeth too, and I say that you should wait about 24 hours for it to heal. Don't eat solid foods or hot liquids (such as soup and coffee). After 24 hours, you can slowly begin to chew on the left side of your mouth.

First, don't worry. Although you may not have teeth extracted everyday, it does happen all the time. Try to relax. Most bleeding usually last for a few hours. Sometimes it can still ooze for a day or so. It takes a day for the blood clot to become established . Remember that a drop of blood in saliva can appear to be a lot of blood. Use your common sense with eating. Nothing too hard or too cold. For the day of the extraction do not drink thru a straw, rinse, or spit out. This will cause the blood clot to come out and delay healing. Good luck, and relax!

You shouldn't be bleeding bright red blood for more than 24 hrs. Use 4 advil every 6 hours for pain (or your pain meds), and keep the swelling down by chewing on unopened frozen ice-pops.

As for eating, milkshakes are the food of the season. Try chocolate ice cream with just a little milk, or throw a banana and some smooth peanut butter in. Try some protein powder, and some benefiber, too. Or just go buy a smoothie. Regular saltine crackers will melt in your mouth, or have a bowl of graham crackers with milk in it--they melt completely. Yogurt is good--maybe you'd rather substitute some yogurt for some of the ice cream in your milkshake, or maybe you can make your own smoothie.

I have to go through this myself in a little while. I don't look forward to it.

Take care!

Make sure your liquid intake stays high, even though you may not be eating as much.
