Chilling wines does not mean freezing them. The ideal serving temperature is somewhere between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit—which, as it happens, is the ideal storage temperature for wines (both reds and whites). Fifteen minutes in an ice bucket, or 15 to 30 minutes in the fridge, is usually all it takes to get a red wine to the optimal temperature and to put a strangely attractive sheen of condensation on the bottle. Anything longer is going to mute the fruit and accentuate the structure. The goal is to cool the wine down just enough to make it revitalizing, not to turn it into sludge.
There is a chart of proper tempuratures here: http://www.vinote.com/cellar_temperatures.php

White and rose' wines are ok to chill. Red wines are severed at room temperature. Any wine that comes in a box or twist off cap bottle defiantly should be refrigerated.

No shame in buying boxed wine. It will last quite a while, if you're not planning on drinking the entire thing in one or 2 days. The spout keeps the air out, and the wine won't turn bad.
Chilled wine tastes much better. Even the wineries have wine chillers for the wines they give you to sample. And gee... the reds are right in there with the whites, blushes and roses. No segregation there. lol
What ever wine you serve, just be sure it's what you and your guests enjoy. Everyone has different tastes, and obviously, opinions when it comes to wine. What I like, you might think is best used to clear the drains with. It's all a matter of personal tastes, finances and all that rot.

If it's white, yes. Although some hardcore Chardonnay drinkers like it almost room temperature. Not a bad idea to check with your guests as to their preferences.
Red wine is supposed to be served at (I believe) 52 degrees, so maybe chill it for just a bit before serving. And don't forget to open it early (15 minutes or so) and let it "breathe".
BTW, if this is boxed wine, set it on fire & spring for a bottle of "5 buck Chuck", you'll be glad you did & so will your guests, and their livers !

YES !! Regardless of color refrigerate it.You are going to get a zillion answers telling you all about room temperature and all of those answers are going to be wrong and the reason that they're all going to wrong is that "room temperature" in wine terms means cave temperatures of 55-63 degrees NOT house temperature which are often 20+ degrees greater .
If you don't believe me drink a 55 -58 degree cab and then drink a 75-78 degree cab and see which one tastes better. Right.
