WHOLE WHEAT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine, softened
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. water
2 egg whites
1/2 cup applesauce
1 12-oz. package chocolate chips ( or chopped chocolate bars)
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Sift whole wheat flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. In separate bowl, combine margarine, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla water. Beat until creamy. Beat in eggs whites adn applesauce. Add flour mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 375°F.
