since there is no such thing as spot reducing the only way to go is reducing body fat percentage by diet and exercise
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 400-600cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day (have lots of veggies to eat in between meals if you are still hungry)
8 glasses of water -carry bottle of water with you and when you feel hungry drink it - we often confuse hunger with thirst (our bodies confuse it)
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for average of 45min, light weight training a few times a week (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, ice cream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
of course you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You have to ask yourself what you are looking for: do you want a quick-fix diet which may give you great results initially, but where you will gain the weight back (and most likely more along with it)? Or do you want to make a lifestyle change (much different than a 'diet') and take the weight off for good? If it's the former, look at something like juicing where you can make your food more digestible and get the full benefit from your ingredients.
If it's the latter however, I personally recommend you take a look at Dr. Dean Ornish's lifestyle program. He was the first doctor to develop a nutrition program that was proven to reverse things like heart disease. Additionally, those who tried his program ended up dropping a lot of weight safely and were able to continue to keep it off permanently. While I do not have heart disease myself (at the moment), I am at a much higher risk for things such as heart disease, strokes and diabetes due to the weight I carry around my abdominals. And I am still in my 20s! I decided that rather than wait around to have a heart attack before making lifestyle changes, I would work to prevent these devastating illnesses.
I do find his program quite restrictive, and I do not follow it to the letter, but I have lost 10 pounds in the last two weeks, just by reducing my fat intake, eating whole grained foods (instead of that delicious tasting glue we call white bread), drinking lots of water and exercising lightly (I am not a gym person, I walk).
So it really comes down to how much work you want to put into losing weight. Are you looking for a fad, or looking for a lifestyle change?

Pilates. It really tones and shaves off inches on your waistline. Trust me, do it consistently, with a nutritious diet and you will definitely see results! l lost 25 pounds doing pilates, plus 30 minutes of walking, everyday, within 2 months.. I not only lost the fat off my stomach but toned and slimmed down my butt, thighs and hips. Oh and yes, pilates also helped tone my legs. Make sure, that you do pilates with a combination of cardio, because the results are amazing!!
