Tell them you have an offer for a lower rate , Can you match it? If they say no start throwing a fit saying you have been with them for X many years and this is how they treat loyalty? Tell them if they do not give you the lower rate you will close you account. Ask the person their name and tell them " when they call me to see why I closed my account I will tell them you are the person who refused to help"

But before you even call them , gather some names of their competitors and actual rates. So you won't sound like an idiot if she asks you what company and what rate.

good luck

cheers

Fastest way to get the rate lowered and/or the limit increased is to pay the card off first and not use it. You'll get phone calls and mail with all sorts of special low interest rates.

If you carry a balance, they have no incentive to lower the rate. Find a lower interest rate deal and transfer the balance.

dead easy. change your card provider, use one that is giving you a better deal and keep your eyes open for even better deals if they come along.
your credit card company is making money from you .they want your money they do not need your loyalty as that seems to be causing you to pay a higher rate
